The British Geological Survey (BGS) has an exciting opportunity for a Business Administrator Apprenticeship to be based within our Learning and Development function. This small team is responsible for the Personal Development of staff and operates within the wider L&D function and Human Resources.
We are looking to appoint a committed and highly effective Business Administration apprentice to join our team to assist with the day-to-day running of L&D activities. This includes assisting with the administration of planning, delivering and evaluating L&D activities within BGS.

It is a world leading geological survey whose core mission is to advise government of science related to the subsurface and to undertake applied research to solve earth and environmental issues, both in the UK and globally. It is funded directly by UKRI, as well as through research grants and private sector contracts.

About the Role
Reporting to the Learning and Development Business Partner, your key responsibilities/duties will evolve over time as you develop your skills and capabilities, supported by BGS colleagues and through your apprenticeship. Typical duties can include:
1. Support the administration of the L&D inbox and responding to enquiries
2. Administration support for learning and development activity, including the Oracle administration (BGS internal HR and Finance system), calendar invites, booking venues and catering.
3. Support the administration of evaluation forms, including monitoring returns and producing basic reports
4. Support the promotion of learning activities, including advertising via relevant communication channels.
5. Providing administration to support the advertising and monitoring of the organisations mandatory training courses.
6. Support the L&D Business Partner in the administration of purchase orders and L&D finances.
7. Support in the administration of accurate and accessible records for all L&D activities.
8. Support the administration of L&D help and guidance information, including updating material published on the internal intranet.
The successful candidate must proactively engage with the wider L&D and HR team, and be willing to participate in diverse activities to aid their development.
What You Will Learn
You will undertake professional development and training as part of a cohort of apprentices with Access Training, completing the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship over 18 months. The first 15 months are known as the “practical period” where you will learn through a combination of on-and-off-the-job training with BGS and your Access Training tutor to develop the required Knowledge. You will also have 6-weekly one-to-one sessions with your tutor who will support you with implementing and developing the Skills and Behaviours, and building the portfolio of evidence.
In the final 3 months of your programme, you will undertake and lead on a work-based improvement project as part of the independent End Point Assessment. The End Point Assessment enables you to demonstrate the required Knowledge, Behaviours and Skills required to pass.
Person Specification (Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Any Special Requirements)

Essential:
1. Achieved 2 GCSE passes at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
2. Excellent written communication skills as evidenced through your Covering Letter and CV
3. Attention to detail
4. Excellent organisational skills
5. Ability to work as part of a team
6. Ability to work to deadlines with a set timeframe
7. Competent on the use of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
8. Excellent verbal communication skills
Desirable:
1. A demonstrable interest in the work of BGS and NERC
2. Experience of working in a customer or staff facing role
Important Information
1. To complete the apprenticeship, you will need evidence of Maths and English GCSE at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent i.e. Level 2 Functional Skills)

3. The training provider will also ask you to complete an initial assessment during the application process.
