This is an exciting opportunity to join our MSK Outpatients Therapy Team at Liverpool University Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (LUHFT) as a Band 7 MSK OT.
We are looking for a highly skilled and dynamic clinician with significant experience and skills within MSK. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of the role of Therapies in our MSK pathways. High level clinical reasoning, risk identification and problem-solving skills are essential.
The post holder must demonstrate the ability to lead the team delivering an innovative and responsive service to meet the needs of our patients and the organisation. The post holder will have significant experience in working with adults with complex presentations and will demonstrate confidence in managing a varied workload at pace. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work as an effective member of a team. You will be responsible for the supervision of junior staff and service development.
We have excellent links to our Orthopaedic services and we work in an open learning culture. LUHFT has teams of experienced and highly skilled staff. We are committed to CPD through training, regular supervision, appraisal, and personalised development plans. Staff are required to work flexibly. This may include supporting seven-day services and shift patterns over an extended working day. We currently offer MSK OT services at two hospital sites.
An annex 21 training post will be considered.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced MSK Clinician with excellent leadership and communication skills. You will be dynamic and flexible and able to perform under pressure. You will be able to problem solve and innovate depending on the specific needs of the patient.
The successful candidate will be able to work in a small team and manage a number of pressures and priorities whilst maintaining a high standard of care at all times.

Job responsibilities
1. To undertake assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies using advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to clinically diagnose.
2. Implement evidence-based treatment plans with regards to physical, cognitive, perceptual, psychological and social functioning.
3. Deliver and evaluate treatment programmes according to health care needs using a comprehensive range of treatment options.
4. To manage waiting lists and prioritise referrals with own team.
5. To advise, assist and educate Occupational Therapists on the management of clinically complex patients.
6. To take part in acute intervention Weekend Working (optional).
7. To carry out home assessments within the patients' usual place of residence, liaising with family, carers, multidisciplinary team and support teams within the community.
8. To make recommendations based on Occupational Therapy clinical reasoning, problem-solving and risk assessment in order to maintain the patients' functional abilities and quality of life within the community.
9. To liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies external to the Trust, regarding social care and housing, to provide equipment, recommend and arrange home adaptations to support independent living skills completing necessary documentation.
10. To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided, implementing and reviewing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken.
11. To be responsible for training and supporting Therapy staff whose case load includes patients with scar management and pressure garments needs.
12. To work closely with other members of the Clinical Team to develop a co-ordinated Multidisciplinary Service and actively participate in the scheduled Team Meetings as required.
13. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other Health & Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. This will include patients who will have difficulties in understanding and communication.
14. To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.
15. To attend Orthopaedic and Rheumatology clinics working with the Consultants, advising, treating and triaging as required.
16. To attend any other clinic relevant to the delivery of an effective musculo-skeletal service.
