Engineering Manager
The Company
Wheelfreedom is a Chessington-based provider of mobility equipment including specialist wheelchairs and complex seating solutions, as well as more traditional products such as mobility scooters and rise and recline furniture. We have revolutionised the industry, combining expert knowledge, a modern spacious showroom and a fully-equipped workshop in our Chessington headquarters.
We are passionate about the level of service we provide our customers in an industry that has not always been associated with this, and we always strive to go above and beyond our customers’ expectations. Our service makes a transformative difference to people’s lives, and we get to develop a real rapport with our customers, many of whom are with us for decades.
We aim to be the leader in providing complex clinical and technological solutions to customers that are not otherwise possible within the industry, and our engineering capabilities are a key driver of this goal.
Wheelfreedom is a growing company of over 35 employees, and we prioritise a friendly and supportive culture amongst our staff that is unlike what you will find from most other employers.
The Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to push this part of the business onto the next level. You will be managing the entire warehouse and workshop areas of the company, as well as their staff.

* Progressing engineering capabilities - to support the company’s growth objectives, and become the leader in engineering excellence within the industry.
* Strategic development - driving improvement and investigating strategic opportunities for progressing engineering capabilities and refining processes.
* Day-to-day operations within the warehouse - coordinating repairs, managing stock levels, and maintaining the presentation of the warehouse environment.
* Management of staff - including recruitment, training, performance reviews, and fostering a supportive culture.
The Person
We are looking for a proactive individual ideally with experience in a senior engineering role from within the mobility industry or NHS wheelchair services.
To excel in the role, the ideal candidate fulfils as many of these requirements as possible:
* Relevant qualification - e.g. Rehabilitation Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
* Experienced in management, whether that be a business unit or managing a team
* Confident in training and mentoring engineering staff
* Strong motivator and excellent communicator, able to swiftly develop a rapport with colleagues and other stakeholders
* Strong attention to detail and organised mindset
* Driven to improve processes and performance
While experience with wheelchairs, seating and other mobility products is preferred, we will also consider applicants from outside the industry with strong relevant engineering and management experience.
