Title Space Systems Propulsion Performance Engineer Title: Space Systems Performance Engineer Salary: £36,000 - £65,000 depending on experience Location: Bristol, Leatherhead or Burton offices considered. Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home. Closing Date: 18th November however we encourage early applications We are seeking an experienced space system propulsion performance engineer to support our exciting opportunities developing hypersonic flight. Ideally you will be conversant with existing technologies ranging from conventional aerospace gas turbines, solid and liquid fuelled rocket, ram/scramjet, and also with novel technologies. You will have a good understanding of performance modelling of these systems, using commercial or proprietary energy balance codes with relevant subsystem modelling experience of compressors, combustors, turbines, secondary air systems and jet nozzles. We can offer a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on the field of hypersonic flight, responsible for the development of performance modelling methods and capability to integrate with a new vehicle concept. You will provide expert technical input, identifying and validating relevant data, deploying new methods to refine understanding of vehicle performance, liaising with the aerothermal technical lead to provide understanding of propulsion system thrust, control logic, flow rates, pressures, temperatures and shaft speed. There are a number of contracting arrangements we would consider for this role, including a fixed term contract or a permanent role. The role would be with a Bristol, Burton-On-Trent or Leatherhead based team, with hybrid and flexible working opportunities, including the potential to work from our Harwell pop-up office. Candidates are expected to be able to demonstrate the following experience: Demonstrable experience in this or a similar related role. Experience with energy balance codes (GasTurb, NPSS, EcosimPro, or related proprietary codes). Subsystem modelling experience of key propulsion components including compressors, combustors, turbines, secondary air systems and jet nozzles. Technical ownership of performance deck definitions, including control of engine/vehicle interfaces and resolution of design iteration input to achieve consistent design definitions for gated review processes. Experience implementing new/novel performance modelling approaches, either in additional models or directly using APIs/plug-in functionality. Ability to critically assess sparse sets of test data, quantify uncertainty in performance predictions, and develop validation plans to fill in relevant gaps. Candidates able to demonstrate additional experience below would be highly sought after: Technical programming following recognised software development processes in a cloud-based development environment (Python, Matlab, C++). Experience of pre-cooled turbojet performance modelling. Experience of gated design processes, including presenting to stakeholders and action resolution. Knowledge of European Cooperation for Space Standardization Experience of working with either the European Space Agency or UK Space Agency. Working at Frazer-Nash One of our core values at Frazer-Nash is that we value our people. We enable them to find work that they enjoy and that allows then to continuously grow and develop, whilst maintaining a healthy work-life balance. We support our people in achieving chartership with relevant engineering and scientific institutions. Where possible we encourage cross-sector and cross-discipline working to allow skill sets to be transferred and to encourage sharing of best practice from different sectors. We support our people to develop consultancy skills including business development and project management. As our people progress, we provide opportunities for increased responsibility and support our people to transition into the career paths that they want to take. Be that becoming an expert in a technical discipline, transitioning into people management or focussing on business development of a specific sector. Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
