We are looking for a committed and driven pharmacy technician to lead clinical trials in NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility (ICRF) based at Hammersmith Hospital.
As a new initiative, ICRF is keen to hire a Pharmacy Technician with an interest in Clinical Trials to enable a smoother delivery of investigational medicines in ICRF on academic studies as well as commercial trials. The post holder will be based in ICRF but line managed by the Clinical Trials Lead Pharmacist and is expected to work in both departments.
The job involves:
1. Trial set up, attending SIVs, preparing documents, maintaining electronic access to randomisation systems, receiving IMPs, monitoring storage conditions, and any other tasks required for the trials.
2. Working in the pharmacy department to ensure stocks of IMPs are sufficient, ordering more as required, and being in contact with the sponsor/sponsor representative for drug-related matters.
3. Preparing and dispensing study medication to ICRF, ensuring accountability records and pharmacy site files are maintained.
4. Cross cover at other Trust sites, especially St Mary’s Hospital where the Children’s CRF is located.
Applicants should have excellent organisational and communication skills and be happy to work on multiple projects independently or in a team. Applicants need post-registration training and experience in Hospital Pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain and develop the Pharmacy dispensary clinical trial service to ensure smooth running of clinical trials in ICRF.
2. Assist research teams, Sponsors and others in the setting up and running of clinical trials, liaising with relevant parties regarding all pharmaceutical aspects of clinical trials involving pharmaceutical preparations, and provide advice to research teams and the clinical trials team on dispensing of products.
3. Co-ordinate all pharmaceutical aspects of clinical trials requiring dispensing or supply and ensure the effective, efficient, and high-quality supply of medications to patients undertaking clinical trials.
4. Ensure that all pharmacy, and where appropriate nursing and medical, staff are appropriately advised and trained on the running and dispensing of clinical trials.
5. Assist feasibility teams in costing queries to enable financial agreements for clinical trials to be drawn up accurately and quickly in accordance with Trust and national guidelines.
6. Ensure that wherever possible all monies due to pharmacy are invoiced, collected, and necessary records maintained, in liaison with research teams, Joint Research Office, and the pharmacy clinical trials team.
7. Actively identify opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of the clinical trials service and work with the Lead Pharmacists for Clinical Trials to harmonise and better the service.
