Outline of the role As a Design Manager with Farrans you will be responsible for the successful delivery of our Construction transformation airport project. Managing all aspects of delivery of the design from contract award through to completion, ensuring that the design is delivered to programme, has been reviewed by the team, gained Client approval and subsequently to answer queries and resolve challenges during the construction phase. With finally assisting in preparing for completion by managing the handover process. Project outline Farrans current project forms part of Bristol Airport’s overall multi-million-pound transformational development plan enabling 12 million passengers a year to use the Airport. It consists of multiple shell and core extensions to the current footprint of the terminal building in order to further enhance the customer airside experience. We are on site with this exciting project which will play a significant role in the step change of Bristol Airport as it elevates its offering to support new air links and increase inbound tourism. As a Design Manager you will complete but not limited to Managing the development of the design from contract award through to completion Providing clear direction to designers for all information and monitoring progress Manage Designs to ensure designs are co-ordinated and approved in advance of the construction programme Work with the Buying Team to ensure packages are procured ontime. Reviewing all design information to ensure compliance, buildability, financial viability, temporary works Contribute to the management of risk & opportunity and value engineering Resolve technical problems and design issues that emerge and share solutions to the wider team Actively work to minimise risk to the Contractor from potential defects, potential hazards and non-compliance Advise on protocol and procedures for formalised workflows for formatted information Implementation of BIM as required by the Project / assist BIM Manager Support the Client as to their duties under CDM regulations and their obligations in the development of a design Review and coordinate design and technical related issues with the Commercial and Operations teams. Ensure that all aspects of the building design are fully coordinated including but not restricted to, fire safety, structures, M&E, façades, internal specification, service strategies, maintenance strategies etc Complete Competency Assessment for the Designers/Principal Designers to comply with the Building Safety Act Manage Input from the Building Regulations Principal Designer to validate compliance with Building Regulations and the requirements of the Building Safety Act. Manage and coordinate external consultants in their day-to-day duties related to design, coordination and technical aspects of production • Manage Sub Contractor Design Input and Sub contractor Fabrication Drawing process Required skills & experience Proven Design experience within the Construction or Architecture industry Prior experience within Aviation and structural refurbishment Ability to collaborate across all project teams, such as Commercial, Operations and Procurement Contractually aware and conversant with common forms of contract & NEC, JCT etc Understanding of the building safety legislative framework, including the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations (duty holder roles & competency requirements and the HRB Procedure Regulations. Advanced knowledge in the complete MS Office suite Proficient in the use of document management systems Aconex Experience in utilising the tools of BIM An analytical approach to work with an eye for detail Hold a manual full UK Driving License What we can offer you Our employees are at the core of everything we do.
