Job Introduction
BBC Children in Need act where the need is greatest. Our ambition is to create positive and lasting change across the UK for the children and young people who need us most. We do this by investing in positive relationships that strengthen children’s wellbeing and help them navigate the challenges in their lives. Together with the BBC and our partners, we aim to inspire the nation and unite communities to support us in our work.
Child poverty is the most critical issue facing children and young people in the UK today and for BBC Children in Need, it is a key priority. In order to address this, we have developed ‘Child Poverty Impact’, a strategic collaboration programme with other funders which aims to invest in 10 communities across the UK and empower them to develop their own local solutions to the impact of child poverty.
BBC Children in Need is currently looking for an Insight Manager to support this new Child Poverty Impact programme. They will play a pivotal role in contract managing the effective measurement and understanding of the impact of the programme, ensuring that learning and insights inform decision-making, adaptive management, and wider systemic change efforts. This role will implement a comprehensive learning framework, engaging stakeholders across the programme to embed a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based practice.
Main Responsibilities
The Child Poverty Impact programme is an ambitious, deep and complex place-based systemic change initiative with multiple locations and stakeholders, but also hugely exciting in its potential. Key to the programme’s model is the role of embedded learning on the ground and at an overarching level. We are now seeking an individual with experience of learning and impact measurement within place-based or systemic change environments, and managing larger sized research and/or evaluation contracts.
You will be the internal learning lead for Child Poverty Impact working as part of the small team delivering the programme. You will oversee the commissioning and delivery of the embedded systems necessary to ensure all stakeholders are benefiting from the cycles of learning, reflection and adaptation required to support the evolution of an effective place-based change programme. You will report into the new Head of Impact for the Child Poverty Impact programme, with direct support from the Head of Insight for Impact. You will collaborate across the charity, working with other teams and colleagues particularly those from the Impact and Insight directorates.
* Commission and manage the contract(s) for the delivery of learning and impact measurement across the programme.
* Ensure the regular sharing of and responding to learning at multiple levels, including programme strategy and operations, across sites and within locations.
* Maintain line of sight on the objectives and influencing aims of the programme, and the importance of embedded learning to achieve these.
* Develop, maintain and share a depth of understanding about the learning and measurement practices required for place-based change initiatives.
* Lead and support the sharing of evidence about the progress and impact of the programme.
* Be the owner of learning and impact measurement for BBC Children in Need’s overall strategic aims for child poverty– of which the Child Poverty Impact programme is a part.
The role will require travel around the UK, in particular our Salford and London offices for programme meetings, with occasional visits to the funded locations across the UK.
Are you the right Candidate?
* Proven experience in designing, delivering or contract managing complex evaluation frameworks, particularly in systemic change or place-based programmes.
* Strong knowledge of evaluation methodologies, including participatory, developmental, and mixed-method approaches.
* Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including community groups, policymakers, and funders.
* Exceptional analytical skills and experience working with both qualitative and quantitative data.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex findings into actionable insights to wide range of stakeholders.
* Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.
* Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community empowerment in evaluation practices.
* Evidence of creativity and agility in response to the unexpected.
* Ability to work independently and to use initiative responsibly.
Desirable
* Experience in place-based or systems change programmes in relation to children, young people and families.
* Understanding of the policy and funding landscape related to systemic change.
* Relevant academic or professional qualifications in evaluation, social sciences, or a related field.
