We are seeking a Registered health professional with an Undergraduate qualification in Midwifery, Radiography or Nursing and a current registration with the NMC/HCPC to work towards becoming a full-time member of the ultrasound team undertaking a wide range of ultrasound examinations, to include Obstetric, Gynaecological, General & Small Parts examinations.
The post holder will be expected to work alongside qualified sonographers and have regular meetings with their named mentor(s). All scans and reports produced by the trainee sonographer will be double checked by a qualified sonographer.
Alongside clinical training you will undertake a PG Cert/Dip in medical ultrasound. Attending lectures provided by the University of West England (UWE) as required by the training programme.
Main duties of the job
1. Gain comprehensive skills in performing a variety of ultrasound scans, including Obstetric, Gynaecological, General, and Small Parts.
2. Work closely with your mentor and other team members to understand the technical and clinical aspects of each type of scan.
3. Seek feedback regularly to refine your techniques and ensure you are meeting clinical standards.
4. Attend all scheduled lectures and participate actively to deepen your understanding of ultrasound theory and practice.
5. Engage with the academic content to ensure you are well-prepared for assessments and assignments.
6. Make use of resources provided by UWE, such as study materials and tutorial support.
7. Balance your time between academic studies and hands-on clinical practice to excel in both areas.
8. Regularly review and practice the skills learned in the clinical setting, applying theoretical knowledge in a practical context.
9. Prepare thoroughly for all assessments, aiming to pass all components of the course.
Progression to Preceptee and Band 7:
1. Demonstrate your capability and competency in ultrasound scanning to progress to a preceptee role.
2. Work towards achieving the standards and independence required for a Band 7 practitioner, ensuring continuous professional development and keeping up with current best practices.

Job responsibilities
1. This post may include some weekend, bank holiday and weekend working. It will also include working at a number of Community hospitals in the surrounding area so the ability to travel across various Trust sites is essential.
2. To work towards becoming a full-time member of the ultrasound team undertaking a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
3. Any other reasonable task as directed by line manager commensurate with grade.
Eligibility and Enrolment checks and verification of qualifications will be completed by the Trust and University, and all places are conditional and subject to this confirmation - Certification will be required.
You must be available to start and all the pre-employment checks completed before the course start date in January 2025 - date to be confirmed.
As a government requirement to be eligible, all candidates must be a UK resident or have resided in the UK for the past 3 years with the right to remain in the UK.
The Successful candidate will be an experienced Registered health professional with an Undergraduate qualification in Midwifery, Radiography or Nursing and a current registration with the NMC/HCPC.
Salary details as follows:
* Year 1 pro rata @65% Band 7
* Year 2 pro rata @70% Band 7
* Pg Dip pro rata @75% Band 7
* Band 7 after preceptorship
