Job overview
The Head of Midwifery (HOM) holds an important professional role for the delivery of maternity services locally and regionally, providing strong and inspirational leadership to help influence and change the development of these services in Lincolnshire, both in the community and the hospital settings.
ULHT Maternity services are on an exciting improvement journey are looking to recruit a dynamic enthusiastic Head of Midwifery on our Boston Pilgrim site to support continued improvements. The Maternity service has recently been rated good by the CQC and has been able to submit full compliance with CNST year 5 working towards Year 6.

Main duties of the job
With the Director of Midwifery/Nursing – Women’s Services & Breast (DOM), oversee the development, facilitation and implementation of appropriate training and development programmes for midwives, nurses and support staff that enhance practice and care whilst meeting Trust objectives and Government initiatives. To work with local higher education institutions in the development of an appropriate educational curriculum to meet the needs of midwives, nurses, student midwives and student nurses.
Line manage the Matrons for the implementation of robust systems and processes that ensure there is a continuing improvement in the quality of the service provided to women and their babies, safety to staff and visitors to the Trust’s premises, who may be affected by the work of the Trust. Drive change for the benefit of both women and their families, and the staff who provide this care.

Qualifications
* Registered Midwife (currently practicing)
* Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
* Experience that recognises highly developed and complex levels of knowledge, which enable the development of in-depth and original responses to complicated and unpredictable problems and situations.
* Management Leadership Qualification, which has been tested in a management post
* Evidence of effective working relationships both inside and outside the organisation
* Proven experience at senior midwifery level in an acute setting with highly developed and detailed knowledge and experience of the Experience in preparing business cases 10 following: - Current health policy and its impact on the management and development of acute health services
* Significant experience of effective staff management to include: - Providing advice to specialist and non-specialist staff
* Experience of service redesign, development and leading change
* A proven record of success in managing significant operational change while also developing and maintaining high standards of care.
* Previous involvement of multi-agency working across the health economy at a senior level
* Experience in preparing business cases
Knowledge, Skills and aptitude
* In-depth knowledge of national nursing and midwifery initiatives, statutory frameworks and policies
* Demonstrable communication skills, including the ability to negotiate in challenging situations
* Strong quality focus with an innovative approach and the ability to solve complex problems
* A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled with a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority.
* Well-developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams, and have them understand the Trust’s and Divisional performance expectations
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
* Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework
