Join Close Brothers Central Credit, Asset Finance & Leasing Team where you will be responsible for underwriting deals in line with the business’ credit risk appetite and policy. In addition, the role will provide credit recommendations to more senior underwriters/committees and assist the business in structuring deals to mitigate key risks arising.
The role could include line management responsibility of up to 4 team members.
The role sits within the second line of defence and reports to the Asset and Leasing Head of Underwriting.
The role will have a significant delegated credit authority and may require MRT/Certified Person status.
The role can be based in either Manchester or Wimbledon.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General
1. Maintain a strong understanding of CBAFL’s business model and how a deal should be structured, adhering to bank and CBAFL policy, procedures, and risk appetite.
2. Underwrite for CBAFL and other divisions as part of the shared services model within delegated credit authority and to agreed SLA. Decisions should be clearly and concisely articulated with clarity on conditions.
3. Provide credit recommendations to more senior underwriters/committees, attending committees to provide input where required.
4. Support Quality Assurance process of the wider underwriting team, providing constructive feedback/action plans to improve overall quality of underwriting.
Business engagement
1. Encourage an open culture with regular two-way communication with the business and Central credit team.
2. Act as an underwriting subject matter expert. Provide guidance to the business on credit policy, appetite, and application writing.
Risk & Compliance
Ensure that all Governance and Compliance requirements are adhered to and all reporting and reviewing activities required by the Regulatory Bodies are carried out to the standards required.
Developing Our People: As a line manager, you will be responsible for inspiring and motivating your team, as well as developing performance through coaching. You will encourage your team to take responsibility for their own personal development and provide support through regular feedback.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE/ARE:
1. Proven track record of commercial underwriting new business in a financial environment.
2. Demonstrable understanding of asset finance including risks associated with products e.g. Finance lease, Operating lease, Receivables funding, and Sale & HP back.
3. Sound appreciation of security/legal/documentation risks.
4. Ability to interpret complex financial statements, with a clear understanding of cash flow cycle and balance sheet strength.
5. A good appreciation of risks surrounding types of assets funded, ability to realise assets and market values.
6. Understanding of Macro Economic Climate.
7. Ability to engage with internal and external customers and build good working relationships.
8. Ability to work under time pressure.

1. Degree educated or equivalent industry qualifications.
