The Role
Being a Residential Support Worker (RSW) at Lotus House isn’t just a job—it’s a chance to be a positive role model, a source of stability, and a person who helps shape a young person’s future. You’ll be there to support them through life’s challenges, celebrate their achievements, and help them develop the confidence and skills to move forward.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Providing care, emotional support, and guidance to children and young people in a safe and nurturing environment.
2. Building strong, trusting relationships and helping young people feel valued and understood.
3. Encouraging independence by supporting with daily tasks like cooking, education, and social activities.
4. Managing difficult emotions and behaviours in a calm, compassionate way.
5. Keeping accurate records and working closely with a team of professionals to ensure the best outcomes for each child.
6. Being a listening ear, a steady presence, and sometimes, the person who helps a young person believe in themselves again.
What We’re Looking For
Must-haves:
1. A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
2. Patience, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
3. Great communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
4. An understanding of trauma and how it impacts behaviour and emotions.
5. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting young people’s well-being.
6. Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and nights.
7. An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Nice-to-haves (but we can help you get there!):
1. Experience working with children in a residential or similar setting.
2. NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or the willingness to work towards it).
3. A full UK driving licence.
4. Knowledge of therapeutic approaches like PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy).
