We are seeking a Senior IT Technician to join our team at a managed service client site in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. This role is pivotal in maintaining efficient IT operations and ensuring smooth communication between the IT department and end-users. Working closely with the IT Manager and the IT Technicians, the Senior IT Technician will manage advanced technical support, proactive system maintenance, and participate in IT initiatives across multiple sites in a manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will be technically skilled and approachable, with a focus on delivering a high standard of IT service that is both responsive and user-centric. This role involves addressing escalated support requests, system monitoring, and implementing improvements under the IT Manager’s guidance.
The successful candidate must be willing to travel to the EU and the Far East, as required, to support business-as-usual (BAU) activities or project work. This may include occasional extended travel depending on the scope of the work.
This position is suited for a candidate who combines technical expertise with a keen focus on reliable, effective service delivery, contributing to an IT environment that meets both operational goals and user expectations.
Your responsibilities as a Senior IT Technician will be:
* Technical Support and Escalation: Provide advanced technical support on escalated issues, delivering solutions efficiently while maintaining clear and considerate communication with end-users.
* System Maintenance and Monitoring: Regularly monitor and maintain servers, storage solutions, and network infrastructure to ensure smooth operation and reliability.
* Network and Security Management: Assist in network configuration, including TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, and VPNs, prioritising both security and ease of use for end-users.
* Project Support and Implementation: Support IT projects under the IT Manager’s guidance, including infrastructure upgrades and system enhancements, keeping relevant stakeholders informed of progress and impacts.
* Documentation and Compliance: Maintain up-to-date records and detailed documentation, ensuring procedures and configurations are clear and accessible to all relevant team members.
* Backup and Recovery: Oversee backup routines and disaster recovery protocols, instilling confidence in system reliability and preparedness.
* Engagement with End-Users: Interact with staff across all levels to provide IT support that is responsive, respectful, and sensitive to their needs, ensuring a positive experience.
About you
* Experience: Minimum of 4+ years in IT support, ideally within a manufacturing or managed service environment, with the ability to manage a diverse range of IT systems.
* Technical Knowledge: Practical experience with:
o Microsoft Technologies: Office 365 (Email, SharePoint), Microsoft 365 Business, Microsoft Intune, and Azure (IaaS)
o Server Management: Windows Server 2022, Active Directory, Group Policy, Domain Services
o Network and Security: TCP/IP, VLAN, switching, routing, firewall configuration, VPN, and WAN environments
o Backup Solutions: Knowledge of Veeam, Rubrik, or similar backup technologies
o Endpoint Management: Experience in managing desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and print services
* Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly and thoughtfully communicate technical information, listen actively, and build rapport across departments.
* Attention to Detail: A careful and professional approach to documentation, planning, and service execution, consistently meeting operational standards.
* Preferred Qualifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CompTIA, Microsoft) are advantageous.
