What can you expect from joining a specialist team:

6. You will need to be a driver and have business insurance
7. being busy engaging and encouraging the child or young persons to take part in activities and form structure
8. providing accurate reports and information to support the development of care plans and goals
9. playing a critical role in the safety and well-being of the child or young person
The role - Support worker in Children's homes
10. supporting children and young people in a residential setting
11. confidence to work with colleagues at times of heightened behaviours to de-escalate situations
12. experience of using de-escalation techniques to keep children and young people safe
13. experience making decisions and taking action in challenging situations
14. an understanding of detailed and accurate daily record keeping, incident reporting
15. be creative when engaging and establishing trust with children and young people
16. demonstrate sound communication and judgement
17. clarity over protecting personal and professional boundaries at all times
Commitment - We are looking for individuals who can:
18. be a consistent part of a team offering dedicated support to a child or young person
19. provide availability and maintain this for the duration of the support required
20. to take time to read relevant reports, referrals and profiles to gain insight to the child or young person
Personality - our specialist staff teams are successful because they are passionate and have a deep commitment to providing safety and support when it is needed most. To join this team we look for individuals who demonstrate the following:
21. calmness during crisis situations such as aggression, self harm, destructive behaviours for example
22. confidence in your experience to support you making prompt decisions on a daily basis
23. understanding of how trauma, previous experiences and diagnoses can impact day to day behaviours of children and young people
24. non judgemental keeping an open mind and refraining from criticising even during challenging situations
25. resilience to continue supporting through particularly stressful situations and to keep trying new ways to engage and build trust
26. observant your observations and outcomes of support will have a significant impact on the child's / young person's journey, you will have heightened awareness levels and the ability to share these insights through your reports and meetings with other professionals
Skills and training
27. DBS on update service or support new application
28. Registered with relevant regulatory body
29. PMVA trained - ideally or willing to undertake training
