Job summary Jasmine Lodge is an inpatient Mother and Baby unit supporting women with acute Perinatal mental illness within the first year of their baby's life. We have an exciting opportunity for a full time, fixed term position for 8months to cover maternity leave. As a Nursery Nurse working here, you will be an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team working closely together to provide 24/7 holistic care for mentally unwell Mums and their Babies. You will have had recent experience and a sound working knowledge of baby care and development from 0-12 months. You will be working alongside mothers to model and support them in caring for and engaging with their baby. You will be sharing your knowledge with the team with regards to best practice and safe care. You will have an understanding of infant mental health and you will be able to advocate for the infant. Safeguarding is a core part of your role as a Nursery Nurse, this includes making referrals when appropriate or escalating through the internal safeguarding team. Main duties of the job To demonstrate a sound knowledge of caring effectively for infants under 1 year and utilise this knowledge to educate and guide other colleagues on the Mother & Baby Unit (MBU). This may include but is not limited to advice around breast/ formula feeding, weaning, sleep and play. To ensure current practice and care in the Mother & Baby Unit reflects standards as outlined in the Trusts Safeguarding Policies alongside the Devon Safeguarding Children Board Procedures and to be able to engage with specialist safeguarding services as and when necessary. To take initiative and display ability to observe, assess, plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of care and interventions for infants on the Mother & Baby Unit. To support and empower the development of parent/infant bonding and attachment through engagement, activities and play. To assist in the management and organisation of workload as required. Assist with clinical duties for all mothers within the Mother & Baby Unit. To use modelling and evidence based practice to enhance mothers and staff knowledge and skills in caring for infants on the Mother & Baby Unit. To contribute to the development of standards of care for both mothers and babies in the Mother & Baby Unit, proving feedback as necessary and taking positive steps toward implementing necessary change. Knowledge and skills Essential Detailed knowledge of infant development. Knowledge of age and stage appropriate play activities. Understanding of the Childrens Act and knowledge of child protection guidelines and procedures.
