The job is with the Anticoagulation Service and the base will be the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Services (NMCPS) Directorate at Leighton Hospital. Part of the role will be utilisation of the computerised dose adjustment system (DAWN AC) at community clinics, along with the associated technical and clerical duties.
We serve around three million people and we’re highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research. The Trust has around 1,450 inpatient beds across two sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. Our 11,000 strong workforce provide emergency treatment, planned operations and medical care from Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford.

Key Responsibilities
* To support the scientific and technical workforce performed by the qualified staff in the anticoagulation department.
* To ensure that all procedures are undertaken according to laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
* To support the anticoagulation team in the provision of the service to all users of the department.
* To undertake home visits to perform near patient testing using INR monitoring devices.
* To telephone dose changes to patients as directed by the anticoagulation manager or other anticoagulation practitioner.
* To input patient referrals on to the DAWN anticoagulation software database.
* To answer telephone calls from patients, GP surgeries and hospital departments and to deal with or refer calls as appropriate.
* To monitor non-attendance using the DAWN anticoagulation software database and distribute letters as appropriate.
* To receive, open and sort departmental mail.
* To perform daily checks for results which have not been transmitted straight to DAWN.
* To maintain the anticoagulation patient filing system.
* To ensure all outstanding work has been processed.
* To comply with the requirements for quality and competence for medical laboratories, as specified in the International Standard ISO 15189:2012.
* To work within Quality Management System, departmentally agreed policies and SOP’s.
* To report any deficiencies in Quality promptly to the Quality Lead and/or Quality Manager.
* To verify that full patient details are provided and that they correlate between sample and request.
* To verify that correct samples are received for the tests requested.
* Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others, by taking action/alerting senior management team if practice appears to contravene policy, or if concerned about any aspect of patient care.
* To ensure that laboratory equipment is used and maintained properly.
* To partake in external and internal quality control schemes and to ensure that laboratory quality standards are met.
* To complete Information Governance training and to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998.
* To undertake audits to identify service delivery issues / service improvement.
* To take responsibility for own learning and development by recognising and taking advantage of all opportunities to learn, including full participation in KSF/appraisal, supervision, action learning and by maintaining a professional/personal portfolio of learning.
* To undergo all mandatory training as required by the Trust.
* To undergo all training as required for the above duties and any others that may be specific to individual departments.
