Equans is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join our team in Birmingham on a permanent basis for our QEH contract. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview:
Maintenance Assistants (MAs) will carry out fault finding and repairs within their skill set. Supervisors and managers will support and offer guidance and instruction for more complex faults.
Impact:
The Maintenance Assistant role has an impact on the successful operation of the contract through delivery of maintenance in line with the service standards. Service delivery will be issued via the Helpdesk or line managers.
Complexity:
Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to his/her skill level, without supervision. To perform a wide range of work to his/her skill level, e.g., unblocking toilets/sinks, plumbing PPM, and repairs, assisting the Mechanical trades, cleaning plantrooms, and removing rubbish, fault-finding on non-complex equipment and assisting in plumbing installation work. To manufacture, assemble and install new work as appropriate to his/her skill level. To understand the general working of the hospital's Estates Department, so that work can be carried out in the most efficient manner and be pro-active in developing new ways of working. To use all relevant tools and equipment as appropriate to his/her skill level. Requirement to learn new techniques with training, as necessary, such as Statutory requirements for ladder inspections. To understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts. To maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment as appropriate to his/her skill level. Understand requirements and work as a safety person for Estates staff working at heights or in confined spaces. To receive work notes and to carry out repairs as directed. To carry out unsupervised minor maintenance and repairs and report any defects, unusual circumstances, delays, or difficulties encountered to the Chargehand/Supervisor. Ensure all Planned Preventative Maintenance work is carried out effectively in compliance with maintenance instructions. Produce, if necessary, list of materials to carry out remedial repairs or alterations to current task. Report if stock of consumable items or spares are low. To be knowledgeable of and to work to the codes of practice, Health & Safety Regulations, and all safety rules both Trust, Departmental and Statutory. To maintain workshops and working environment in a clean, tidy, and safe condition. To unblock macerators, toilets, urinals, and sinks etc. Repair internal and external drainage systems. Using Personnel Protective Equipment to prevent exposure to un-contained body fluids. Assist in the moving of heavy loads, plant, equipment, and furniture as required. After appropriate training work off tower scaffolding, ladders, step ladders and within confined spaces. Frequent requirement to exert intense physical effort for several short periods during shift. To be always contactable by radio to receive instructions, this can involve frequent interruptions to work patterns. To be progressively and suitably trained and pass knowledge gained to others.
Qualifications or Required Experience:
Working towards a formal mechanical qualification. Previous appropriate working experience or training in a building maintenance or industrial environment. Able to work as part of a team. Able to record information accurately e.g., log sheets, list of material requirements. Ability to use hand tools, associated trade tools, equipment and machinery for maintenance, repair, and minor improvement/new work to required standard. Able to read, interpret and understand written instruction. Understand requirements of working in an environment similar to that found in health care premises.
