Job Description:
The University of Manchester (www.manchester.ac.uk) is one of the largest single-site universities in the UK, with one of the biggest student communities. In total, 25 Nobel Prize winners have worked or studied here and 93% of our research was ranked as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ by the Research Excellence Framework in 2021. Furthermore, more than nine out of ten of our recent graduates go straight into employment or continued studies.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Technical Operations Manager (Infrastructure and Facilities) to join our dynamic technical operations team, which strives to provide sector-leading technical support for FSE and the wider University. With a commitment to customer service excellence and a passion for science and engineering, the Technical Operations Manager will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students to support teaching, research, and professional services.
The role will be one of a team of four who will ensure that the physical environment and infrastructure of all the buildings in the Faculty of Science & Engineering are maintained to the highest standards. A vital objective will be to streamline and simplify the process of improvements and maintenance for users, focusing on the Nancy Rothwell building and surrounding buildings linked to the School of Engineering.
You will work closely with other team members and in collaboration with FSE staff, estates and facilities management, safety teams, and external contractors to improve the way we process requests using professional project management tools. The team will manage and consolidate maintenance and service contracts to maximize financial efficiency and ensure that core equipment and infrastructure are reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis, with proactive maintenance carried out in a timely manner. Critical roles will include managing staff, building hazards, emergency planning, and business continuity, alongside health and safety colleagues.
You will work closely with the academic community, heads of business areas, and other colleagues to ensure the delivery of world-class teaching and research. The role will require a culture of continuous improvement within the technical and experimental support services and will entail significant change management.
You will be part of the FSE Technical Operations management team. Technical Operations aims to provide sector-leading technical support for the Faculty of Science & Engineering and the wider university. As a Technical Operations Manager, you will ensure that all technical and experimental staff are aware of the Faculty’s strategy to deliver world-class performance and how their work directly supports the achievement of both the University and Faculty’s strategy.
What you will get in return:
* Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
* Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
* Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
* Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
* Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
Our University is positive about flexible working. Hybrid working arrangements may be considered.
