Your mission
The Picture Director will play a pivotal role in the visual identity of the magazine, ensuring that all imagery is of the highest standard, sophisticated, and in line with our brand’s luxurious ethos. This role is currently for a fixed term period of one year.
Key Responsibilities
* Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of picture editors, fostering a collaborative, creative, and efficient work environment and ensuring a constant flow of photo-led ideas for news, features and shoots.
* Visual Curation: Ensure the image selection for the magazine is of the best quality and efficiently presented to allow swift turnarounds on layouts.
* Photo Shoot Direction & Collaboration: Plan and execute high-end photo shoots, from concept through completion. Collaborate closely with the creative design team, taking joint ownership of the entire shoot process, from initial concepts and moodboards to final photos. Attend shoots and work closely with photographers and stylists before and during shoots to ensure alignment with creative vision.
* Digital Content Integration: Work closely with the digital team to curate images for the website and social media platforms, ensuring a cohesive visual narrative that aligns with the brand's vision across all channels.
* Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with photographers, stylists, and image vendors. Ensure we are working with the best talent while keeping within budget constraints.
* Budget Management: Negotiate contracts and secure cost-effective deals with photographers, agencies, and other image-related vendors. Maintain responsibility for adhering to and managing the department’s budget.
* Trend Awareness: Stay up to date on visual trends in fashion, celebrity culture, style, talent and lifestyle to ensure the magazine remains fresh, relevant, and competitive. Understand and implement who a HELLO!-celeb/society person is and our unique tone and editorial values.
* Collaboration: Work closely with editorial, fashion, and art teams to create a cohesive visual narrative for each issue.
* Photo Editing: Review and provide feedback on image selection, colour correction, and retouching, ensuring the final visuals meet publication standards.
Your profile
This individual will lead the picture team to make sure that we are securing the very best photos and exclusives for use across all platforms and that the team is brimming with daily ideas for photo-led feature pitches. Additionally, they will work closely with the digital team to help curate images for our website and social media platforms, ensuring brand consistency across all digital channels. They will work closely with the Brand Creative Director to coordinate photoshoots, seeing the process through from initial concept and moodboards to layout and finished photos, which will require collaboration with photographers, stylists, and other creatives. The setting of and adherence to defined picture budgets is a key part of this role.
Experience
* Proven experience in a senior photo editing or picture director role within luxury or celebrity-focused media.
* Strong network of photographers, stylists, and image-related talent, with a deep understanding of the creative process for high-end editorial photo shoots.
* Experience collaborating with digital teams to curate and optimize visual content for online and social media channels.
* Exceptional eye for photography and design, with a strong sense of what makes an image feel luxurious and aspirational.
* Budget management experience, with the ability to negotiate effectively and find creative solutions to keep costs in line without sacrificing quality.
* Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a creative team.
* Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with editorial, design, digital, and fashion teams.
Qualifications
A relevant higher education qualification is desired but not essential; experience is key.
