This EPSRC funded post is available from January 2025 to 31 st March 2027. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home. The post The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the delivery of the 3-year EPSRC Funded ‘Digitally Enabled Circular Healthcare Innovation’ (DECHI) research programme. The aim of the programme is to investigate how advances in digital technologies and digital approaches can accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and resilient healthcare system of the future using circular innovation. The Research Fellow will play a key role in delivering the project, in collaboration with researchers from the Universities of Exeter, Cambridge and Sheffield and with a range of partners across the healthcare system. The research will include: Defining and establishing a consistent taxonomy and approach to support the identification and integration of information for Medical Technology (MedTech) products and applications segmented by CE value creation opportunity agreed with project partners, Applying the taxonomy and approach developed to a range of case products across the MedTech sector. This involves the sourcing, cleansing, linking and quality assurance of reproducible data from public and industrial sources to build a baseline dynamic stock-flow model and forecast demand to quantify total volumes, sales value, life span, waste flows and embodied carbon/environmental impact against stakeholder KPIs, Apply system/business dynamics, synthetic data and statistical techniques to augment and enhance identified data gaps and inform the baseline model, Design and programme (python) an interactive digital dashboard to visualise baseline outputs for end users using API and other digital tools to automate updates and fill gaps in line with new data availability. About you The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in the Circular Economy and / or Healthcare and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies.
