Job summary Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) provides a comprehensive laboratory diagnostic and advisory service with strong links with other specialties within the Trust and also provides research support for the Trust and University departments The Immunology laboratory provides services to NUH, University Hospital Leicester, Kings Mill Hospital and Derby Hospitals. It has an extensive repertoire of tests, with a large autoimmune section to support the superregional vasculitis clinical service. The department also has a large allergy and immunodeficiency service. The department provides a unique opportunity to experience a very large repertoire of Immunology investigations with a variety of techniques using some of the latest equipment. This includes DxFlex and Aquios flow cytometers, DS2 ELISA processors, 2 Bioflash chemiluminescent instruments, 2 Unicap 250s, Quantalyser 3000 IIF processor and Euroblotone blot processor. Main duties of the job The post holders' main role is to manage the daily organisation of the work of a section or sub-section of the department to include daily supervision of state registered, trainee biomedical scientists and support staff. This may be on a rotational basis with other post holders. The post holder will carry out the specialised examination of samples using various technologies and to report or present the results as appropriate. The department has two Clinical Scientists and there will be a requirement to work alongside them on quality work and also development and introduction of new platforms and methods. Ensure the provision of departmental services in conjunction with the Department Management Team, Supervise and participate in the examination of clinical specimens in accordance with laboratory policies including interpretation of results, in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
