Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse - Haematology Oncology Day Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Band 6 Registered Nurse to join the team on the Haematology & Oncology Day Unit at Good Hope Hospital. The unit is nurse-led, and the post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, toxicity assessment prior to the administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments (SACT). Provide a specialist Oncology and Haematology nursing service to patients, families, carers, and health professionals by demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge of the principles of the safe delivery of SACT and supportive products within an out-patient setting. Provide specialist research-based education and training to staff caring for patients. Undertaking quality improvement initiatives such as audits, research, and evidence-based practice and service development projects. In the absence of the Senior Nurse, take charge of the clinical area to ensure effective operation of the department. The unit at GHH is open Monday-Friday 08.00-18.00 hours.
Main duties of the job
1. Safely assess patients coming in for SACT and be confident in managing treatment-related toxicities.
2. Safely administer all routes of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments.
3. Cannulation, venepuncture, venesections.
4. Be competent in accessing Central venous access devices.
5. Time management of the day unit and supporting junior staff.
6. Deputise for band 7, manage sickness, complaints, and staffing issues.
7. Pre-proceed treatments for the next day, making decisions on supportive treatments and escalating as needed.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse
* First Level degree in related subject or undertaking a degree pathway.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Post basic qualification in cancer, haematology, or oncology.
* Advanced communication skills training or prepared to work towards.
* Recognised teaching qualification or prepared to work towards.
* Evidence of Master's level learning.
Experience
* Relevant post-registration experience at Band 5 or above in cancer nursing.
* Minimum 3 years post-registration nursing experience with 18 months of that being experienced working in an outpatient setting delivering chemotherapy/supportive products.
* Experience of multi-professional working.
* Ability to support and influence change.
* Experience of audit and research.
* Leadership and management experience.
* Experience of teaching.

* Cannulation and phlebotomy skills.
* Chemotherapy competent including administration of bolus peripheral vesicants.
* IV competent.
* IT literate.
