An opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Handyperson.
Our Team consists of 1 Registered Manager, 1 Deputy Manager, 1 Office manager, 3 Senior ARC Worker,10 ARC workers and 1 cleaner.
The successful candidate will support the children in the house to maintain the home.
Do you enjoy supporting children and young people and do you have experience in property maintenance and repairs? We are looking for a handy person to join our team, who will be working within residential services for young people, staff office areas and other onsite buildings used by staff and young people. You will need to be flexible, approachable and able to work on your own initiative.
The handy person's role is to support the children and young people in the home to live in well looked after home and to ensure the buildings, outside areas and environments are:
Safe and meet H&S and HCC requirements
Well maintained
Fixture and fittings are in good order and areas are in good state of decoration
Residential areas are homely
Each day is different, and you will need to plan and prioritise tasks, in liaison with your line manager and the service needs. There is a handy person folder where staff detail any jobs required and there will be times that jobs are not listed. In these times you will need to plan general maintenance tasks such as gardening, window cleaning and jet washing. You will also be required to respond to emergencies during the day, which will require planned jobs being rescheduled. Due to the nature of the service some jobs may need to be done repetitively so you will need to be patient and have some tolerance. You will be required to use a variety of tools and power tools, which are provided.
You will need to work closely with contractors employed by the housing provider, reporting and monitoring repairs they are responsible for, ensuring all works are completed in a timely manner and to a high standard.
We would support any good ideas on problem solving. We would encourage you to help a young person to put things right with repairs if they have damaged something.
About the role
The role is to ensure the buildings, fixtures and fittings and outside areas are safe and well maintained. You will be required to complete a variety of tasks, which include:
General carpentry tasks
Repairs to fixtures, fitting and furniture
Garden maintenance
Jet washing
Decorating
Changing light bulbs
Bicycle maintenance
Putting together furniture, fixing shelves and hanging pictures
Window cleaning
Salting grounds during cold weather
Completing H&S checks, such as tools and ladders
Painting
Experience in property maintenance and DIY is needed. The role may you to support other homes, though this is rare, this may be requested of you, so driving and having a car is required.

About you
Essential:
Full driving licence.
Experience as a handy man.
Some experience of interacting/working or supporting young people in different capacity.
Use Microsoft packages.
Understand Health and Safety.
Desirable:
Experience of Garden Maintenance / painting and decorating.
