Italia Conti
Head of Music
£40,000 to £45,000 per annum
Full-time. Permanent
Are you an accomplished Musical Director with experience of directing Musical Theatre productions in the West End and teaching at FE or HE level with a particular specialism in Musical Theatre?
Perhaps you’re an established, experienced Singing or Music Teacher looking to make the next step in your career?
Would you appreciate the stability of being part of a friendly, established team and relish the opportunity to lead Singing & Music for the Acting and Musical Theatre courses at one of Britain’s leading performing arts institutions from September 2024?
We’re looking for an experienced Head of Music to work with our Vice Principals, Course Leaders, and Head Tutors. You will oversee, build upon, and develop a Singing & Music provision that is engaging, insightful, and immersive. Leading a team of hourly-paid Sessional Tutors, Musical Directors and Accompanists, you’ll ensure our Acting and Musical Theatre graduates enter the profession as outstanding performers in this key strand of our triple-threat training.
This post has responsibility for ensemble singing, acting through song, repertoire studies and Musical Direction for classes and productions including four musicals each academic year. We also have an established Head Tutor of Singing who leads on solo singing tuition and technical singing training who will be a close working colleague.
Your outstanding keyboard skills and your conversance with the musical theatre canon will mark you out as a strong candidate for the role, and you’ll bring to bear your experience as a Musical Director for West End productions or in preparing students training for the profession or both.
An appreciation of the fact that some students’ primary study at Italia Conti may be on a Dance or Acting course is germane to success in the post. Establishing a supportive environment for performers who may not have as much experience or confidence in singing is key. The role involves coordinating the singing and music provision across our BA and CertHE courses. The ability to work closely and autonomously with each of our Course Leaders and Head Tutors and an understanding of the nuances of each programme and its requirements is a fundamental part of the role.
There could hardly be a more exciting time to join us at Italia Conti – in September 2022 we moved to a brand-new campus in Woking (including purchasing 16 brand new Kawai pianos!). We would love to hear from you if it is a challenge that would inspire you.
Flexibility is at our heart, and for the right candidate, we would be prepared to explore alternative working patterns such as annualised hours.
