Join us as a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist in our SEND Therapy Service in West Essex.
We are looking for a Children’s Speech and Language Therapist to work with early years and school-aged children in their educational settings and homes, as part of our Special Educational Needs (SEND) Therapies team.
You will have the opportunity to work hybrid between visits to local schools and completing virtual sessions from home on a full or part-time basis. The role has core hours during school times (with occasional out-of-hours meetings with school staff or parents) with the option to complete your additional hours flexibly.
A driving license and access to a vehicle are essential as you will be visiting local schools as part of your role.
The bulk of core clinical delivery will take place within school hours and education term dates; however, service needs may not be exclusively term-time only. Clinical and administrative work for school holiday periods will be discussed and agreed with the SEND Therapies Manager. The post holder may be required to support the Community Therapy service if appropriate.
Caseload will be agreed with the SEND Therapies Manager, with time allocated for clinical delivery, training, travel, CPD, meetings, and supervision, appropriate to the role and geographical team.
Package Description: As an experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist, you will be part of our valued SEND Therapies Team in West Essex, receiving access to exclusive rewards and benefits including:
1. Band 6 salary with Agenda for Change T&Cs including NHS pension.
2. Membership of My Reward Hub, giving you access to discounts on everyday purchases like grocery shopping as well as cashback and voucher offers.
3. Access to your wages as you earn them to help cover life’s emergencies and avoid overdraft fees or high-interest rates.
4. Online and face-to-face help with your mental and physical wellbeing – from healthy recipes and activity challenges to post-trauma support, legal, debt, and life management help, as well as career coaching and counselling.
5. Access to eLearning, bespoke career pathways, and opportunities for continuing professional development through our ‘Outstanding’ learning and development team, The Learning Enterprise.
6. An open, just culture where you’re encouraged to have and implement ideas which can help us deliver our purpose: changing lives through transforming health and care – backed up by at least £100,000 of ring-fenced innovation funding each year.
7. The pride of working for an organisation committed to the highest clinical and quality standards: with the majority of our rated services holding “good” or “outstanding” ratings from the Care Quality Commission.
Main Responsibilities: Your key responsibilities will be:
1. To manage your own delegated caseload of SEND children independently across a variety of predominantly educational settings.
2. To work with parents/carers, education colleagues, the multidisciplinary team, and the wider children’s workforce to provide a coordinated approach to children’s speech, language, and communication needs, as part of their EHCP provision.
3. To contribute to the EHCP process, including annual reviews, advising and updating schools, parents/carers, and the SEND Therapies service manager accordingly.
4. To support the service to meet key performance targets and contribute to agreed service development.
5. To work in partnership with other agencies to meet local and national objectives as agreed with commissioners and SEND Therapies Manager.
6. To supervise and allocate work to assistants, SLT students, and less experienced therapists when required.
7. To plan and deliver training programmes to other professionals, carers, and less experienced SLTs and SLT assistants, in liaison with the SEND Therapies team and service manager.
The Ideal Candidate: We are looking for someone who:
1. Has registered HCPC registration in Speech and Language Therapy.
2. Is registered with their professional body (Royal College of SLT).
3. Has a driving license and access to a vehicle.
Experience with the following client groups is desirable:
1. Hearing impairment.
2. Developmental Language Disorder.
3. Complex needs.
4. Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), including Makaton, light-tech, and high-tech AAC.
5. Autism, Down Syndrome, Global Developmental Delay.
