EIT Oxford is investing significant resources in a new world-class research and development facility in the Oxford Science Park. Set for completion in 2027, the state-of-the-art campus includes 300,000 sq ft of research laboratories, an oncology and preventative care clinic, and educational and meeting spaces. Together, they create the perfect environment for EIT Oxford experts to take ground-breaking ideas from research to broad implementation. The new facility will further EIT's current partnership with the University of Oxford and become the new home for Ellison Scholars.

We are looking for an experienced Laboratory Technician to assist in the smooth and efficient operation of our laboratories by providing essential logistical, maintenance and support functions. This role will support our genomic sequencing services, supporting cutting-edge research and clinical applications. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in laboratory operations to further their hands-on experience in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative research environment. This role will be responsible for maintaining the laboratories cleanliness, organisation and overall operational efficiency. It will involve supporting laboratory staff with basic technical tasks, inventory management and ensuring that the laboratory environment meets the required standards for safe and effective research. The ideal candidate will be detail-orientated, able to multitask and demonstrate excellent communication skills, with a strong focus on maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment and workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory Support and Maintenance:
* Keep the laboratory clean and organised, including regularly cleaning benches, instruments, and common spaces.
* Ensure that all equipment is properly stored, calibrated, and maintained. Assist with equipment setup and basic troubleshooting.
* Disinfect and sterilise laboratory tools, consumables, and areas according to established protocols.
* Ensure that laboratory safety standards are adhered to, including proper handling and disposal of waste materials.
Inventory Management:
* Assist in managing inventory of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
* Keep accurate records of inventory levels, assist with ordering new stock, and ensure that supplies are replenished in a timely manner.
* Ensure that all reagents and materials are correctly labelled, stored, and easily accessible for workflows.
Sample and Equipment Handling:
* Assist with the transport and preparation of biological samples, ensuring that proper documentation and labelling procedures are followed.
* Deliver and retrieve samples and materials between different laboratory sections as needed.
* Handle and deliver consumables or samples to designated researchers or technical teams.
General Lab Support:
* Provide logistical support for projects by organising sample queues, helping prepare equipment, and setting up workstations.
* Assist technicians and scientists with the setup and operation of basic lab equipment, including PCR machines, centrifuges, and electrophoresis systems.
* Manage the laboratory's waste disposal processes, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Health & Safety Compliance:
* Assist with maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment by adhering to health and safety guidelines.
* Assist in monitoring laboratory conditions, including temperature-sensitive storage for reagents or biological samples.
* Help to ensure that laboratory personnel are following all safety protocols and that safety equipment (e.g., personal protective equipment, eyewash stations) is properly maintained and accessible.
Requirements:
Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
* Be qualified in a related field up to BSc (e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics).
* Experience in laboratory maintenance and familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and safety protocols.

Terms of Appointment:
* You must have the right to work permanently in the UK with a willingness to travel as necessary.
* You will live in, or within easy commuting distance of, Oxford.
* During peak periods, some longer hours may be required and some working across multiple time zones due to the global nature of the programme.
* This is a full time, permanent position to be based fully onsite at the Oxford Science Park.
