Bookkeeper & Accounts Preparation Specialist

I'm currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice based in Watford. They're looking to add a Bookkeeper & Accounts Preparation Specialist to their growing, friendly team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced accounts professional with strong Xero experience, looking to develop their career within a collaborative and client-focused environment. The practice prides itself on its inclusive culture, where staff are genuinely valued, and success is shared.
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries
Preparing annual financial statements and supporting working papers
VAT return preparation and compliance
Payroll processing for clients in line with current tax regulations
Performing month-end tasks including bank reconciliations, journal entries (stock, depreciation, accruals, etc.), and balance sheet reviews
Creating and maintaining budgets in Xero for client forecasting
Liaising directly with clients to ensure accurate financial records
Key Requirements:
Previous experience within an accountancy practice is essential
Strong bookkeeping and accounts preparation background
Proficient in Xero (certification preferred, but not essential)
Excellent attention to detail and organisation
Confident communicator, comfortable working directly with clients
Able to work independently and within a team
Must be within a commutable distance to Watford - this is an office-based role
