We are a friendly department that nurtures both trainees and new consultants. We believe that this is an exciting opportunity to expand on the current workforce to deal with the increasing demand for acute and elective diagnostic scans, multidisciplinary meeting input and interventional services and futureproof the provision of tertiary neuroradiological services. This is a 1-year post in the first instance, with an option to extend. The appointee will join the existing team of consultants and senior trainees and support various aspects of the service according to the skills and interests, participate in MDMs and undertake cross-sectional reporting. With the completion of the brand-new hospital in 2023, delivering an expanded Neuroscience centre, we believe that this is a fantastic opportunity for both professional and geographical reasons. You will be helping to maintain and develop the tertiary neuroradiology services to the population in this region. Neuroradiology is now part of Radiology sitting under the Clinical Support Services Division, alongside pathology. Our office space is shared with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery and Stroke. A wide range of neuroradiology services are provided to the Neuroscience specialties, Oncology, ENT, Ophthalmology and Endocrinology, as well as acute & general neuroradiology services to Accident and Emergency, and medical and surgical divisions within the Trust. The appointee will be based at the RSCH site. There is an extensive list of multidisciplinary meetings including Neuro-oncology, Neurovascular, Spine oncology, Complex spine, Skull-base, Neurosurgical, Pituitary, Neurology and regional Neurosciences, HIV, MS, Stroke, Facial Pain, Low Grade Glioma and Ophthalmology. The neuro-interventional team undertakes diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures. A comprehensive and advanced endovascular service is provided for the entire region as a tertiary neurovascular unit. The stroke unit at RSCH became the regional HASU in 2017. There is anaesthetic support three full days a week and emergency neuro-anaesthetic support for acute cases on other days. There are plans to expand the thrombectomy service to 7 days a week imminently. The department has a strong commitment to training and the KSS training scheme is based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital site with a large cohort of specialty trainees. There are subspecialty neuroradiology trainees (ST4+) as well as core radiology trainees that rotate through the department.
