Description Job Description Title: Sports and Swimming Teacher Grade: 4: £31,434 - £32,346 per annum (pro-rata for part-time hours) Hours 24.5 hours per week, term-time only. School: King Alfred Federation Reports to: Federation Headteacher, KS1 Phase Lead. Fixed Term Contract/ Permanent. Main Purpose of the Job: To provide swimming lessons and sports coaching sessions to pupils of the King Alfred Federation. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated swimming lessons tailored to all abilities Encourage progression through the Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway. Conduct routine assessments and maintain accurate records of pupil progress. Take responsibility for groups or individuals during sports coaching/swim teaching, providing correct knowledge and fostering positive sporting ethics and fair play. Undertake administrative duties, including: Taking attendance registers. Monitoring attendance and lesson movements. Distributing enrolment forms, badges, and progress reports. Completing accident report forms when necessary. Promote positive behaviour and use experience to support all learners effectively. Supervise and support pupils in the pool, on the field, and during other physical activities as needed. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive approach to physical education and sports development Attend training sessions and support equal opportunities for all children and staff. Communication Communicate with parents to provide advice, feedback, and promote swimming and sports activities. Treat children in a manner consistent with the school’s policies and ethos. Teamwork Participate in duty rotas within and around the pool and sports facilities. Support school policies, procedures, and development plans as outlined by the Senior Leadership Team. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a seamless learning experience. Be present during necessary hours to fulfil all professional duties effectively. Health and Safety Ensure the safety of participants during swim sessions and sports activities, adhering to all relevant rules and safety requirements. Be familiar with and follow the Normal Operating Procedure (NOP) and Emergency Action Plan (EAP). Log incidents and accidents per the school’s Health and Safety policy. Maintain a safe environment where children feel comfortable sharing safeguarding concerns. Administer first aid as necessary and ensure all equipment is used and stored correctly. Specific Duties: Teach swimming lessons to a variety of age groups in accordance with the Swim England (ASA) framework. Deliver sports coaching sessions tailored to the abilities of individuals or groups. Assess pupils for Swim England stages and sports proficiency, providing feedback to parents and class teachers. Prepare equipment and ensure it is safely set up and packed away after lessons or coaching sessions. Assist in organising and leading intensive swimming lessons, sports activities, and assessments during school holidays. Use school booking systems and maintain accurate registers and progress reports. Report equipment or building defects promptly and ensure follow-up communication with management. Experience, Education, and Skills: Swim England (ASA) Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification. First aid certificate including CPR. Coaches should be willing to work towards relevant certifications such as NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in their specialised sport. Knowledge of basic Health & Safety requirements. Ability to undertake basic administrative tasks such as completing monitoring forms and using computer systems. Commitment to ongoing CPD to update skills and knowledge in relevant areas. General Expectations: Adhere to the safeguarding and welfare policies for all children. Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times. Participate in in-service training as part of career development, aligned with school needs. Respect the confidential nature of the role. Avoid the use of personal devices during lessons or coaching sessions to ensure focus on pupil safety and supervision. Ensure the poolside and sports areas are clean, tidy, and organised at all times. Person Specification Athelney Primary School Post Title: Sports and Swimming Teacher Essential Desirable Qualifications All Swimming Teachers must have achieved, as a minimum, one of the following qualifications: ASA Level 2 Certificate in Swimming Teaching STA Level 2 Certificate in Swimming Teaching A UK RQF Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in their specialised sport.
