An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Medical Secretary to join our Cardiology Team at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. This post is a part-time 12-month fixed-term contract, providing full secretarial support within a busy department. The successful candidate will need to be an experienced secretary who thrives on a challenge and is confident and competent at prioritising their workload efficiently. You should possess excellent typing and communication skills. Furthermore, we require a motivated individual to provide a professional service to our patients and clinical staff whilst having a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, email, and the Trust's IT systems.
If you are an experienced medical secretary, AMSPAR or equivalent this would be an advantage.
Main duties of the job
JOB PURPOSE
To provide comprehensive administrative and audio-typing support for the Consultant Staff and their junior teams, assisting with achieving Trust and departmental objectives through liaising with relevant people and teams.
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake medical audio/copy typing duties, including outpatient letters to GPs, discharge summaries, and other official correspondence.
* Accept enquiries from clinicians, GPs, health service and social services personnel, other hospitals, voluntary agencies, patients, and their relatives.
* Work using own initiative with minimal supervision, prioritising own workload in line with objectives of the department and consultant teams.
* Deal with all incoming correspondence, phone, fax, and email in an efficient and effective way.
* Coordinate with other members of the secretarial/administration team to provide a co-ordinated and efficient secretarial service.
* Support the Directorate Management Team with the administration, tracking, and validation of patients' pathways to achieve the National 18-week Referral To Treatment (RTT) target.
* Demonstrate sensitivity and maintain professionalism when liaising with patients, relatives, and staff.
* Handle complaints, problems, or issues sensitively, escalating to clinicians/management as appropriate.
* Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, complying with the Data Protection Act, Information Governance, and other Trust/Departmental Policies.
* Provide cover for other secretaries in the Medical Directorate to ensure continuity of service to Consultant, medical staff, service users, and patients.
* Undertake any other duties as may be required/appropriate by the Directorate Management Team.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
* In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Knowledge of NHS systems.
Qualifications
* Recognised word processing/typing qualification.
* AMSPAR.

Experience
* Proven secretarial experience in a healthcare environment.

* Use of OASIS PAS system, Bluespier, EZ notes, and Digital Dictation.
