A highly scientific and technically competent role within a laboratory production environment focusing on technical delivery; including validation and accreditation, Analytical Quality Control, appraising and eliminating potential sources of error, identification of inaccuracies which arise outside of the Quality Assurance process, sharing and evaluating best practice across teams and departments.
The Laboratory is highly automated and uses a combination of simple and complex techniques to provide an analytical service carried out in accordance with quality operating procedures. The analytical service meets the requirements of the ISO 17025 – General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, Monitoring Certification Scheme (Mcerts) and is also United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited.
Job Accountabilities
* Lead on technical performance management within the production environment, working with the Technical Specialist and Senior Scientists.
* Provide hands-on technical support and advice for team methods, including QC for materials, chemicals, equipment, environment, and containers.
* Involved with the wider analytical and Q&SS management team in all aspects of method development and delivery of analytical methods, taking responsibility for successful implementation of new accredited methods into the team, particularly ownership of validation and successful accreditation application.
* Analytical problem solving, equipment maintenance, and best practice integration.
* Support investigation and reporting on anomalous results.
* Support the team with direct analysis for approximately 50% of the time.
* Support technical troubleshooting and problem solving and technical aspects of methods and equipment within the analytical team - maximizing their efficiency and usability for the team.
* Act as intelligent supplier via evaluation and development of analytical services for customer projects.
* Activities focused within the laboratory, with no external involvement, except in exceptional arrangements and with management agreement.
* Contribute to the procurement of major and minor pieces of equipment.
* Identify risks and issues for health and safety and ensure the laboratory is operated in a safe, tidy, and orderly manner.
Knowledge and Skills
* Scientifically and technically adept with extensive recent and detailed practical laboratory skills - high level of expertise across all team methods in the Wastewater Team.
* Demonstration of Competent person status, including fully compliant CPD.
* Proficient analyst status in a variety of analytical techniques within the team and a good understanding of ISO 17025, ISO 5667, and all other related regulatory requirements.
* Good planning, technical, communication, problem solving, and organisational skills.
Minimum Requirements
* NVQ / QCF Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline in line with entry to Membership of a relevant scientific professional body such as the Royal Society of Chemistry OR 10 years laboratory experience suitable to gain Membership entry to Royal Society of Chemistry or Society of Biology.
Additional Information
* Previous Wastewater experience including understanding/use of Segmented Flow, Spectrophotometry, Filtration, Thermo Gravimetric and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance analytical techniques.
