We work in collaboration with the Maternity Unit and the Paediatric Ward enabling the services to align, and thus providing a strong supportive environment to all staff and patients. We provide specialist training, including opportunities to attend the NWNODN Foundation in Neonates programme in the first 12 months and to undergo the Qualified in Speciality Neonatal Intensive Care course. A Trust Preceptorship Programme is also provided. We have an enthusiastic, experienced Neonatal Educator based on the unit to support your learning and on going development including in house study days. This ensures valuable support for both nursing staff, pre registration students and cadets. Main duties of the job This post requires flexibility as the unit operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The service provides Transitional Care, Special care, High Dependency and Intensive care to Neonates. The role of the Nursing Associate is to work predominantly with the team of Registered Nurses, Medics and AHPs, contributing to the ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of babies and their families in line with the service and as agreed. They will monitor the condition and health needs of children within their care on a continual basis in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team. The nurse associate will ensure effective communication is always maintained whilst providing support for junior staff and support workers on the team. The Nursing Associate has a breadth of knowledge and will provide holistic, family centred and person-centred care to the children and their families. They will help to bridge the gap between Health Care Assistants and Registered Nurses by working independently under the leadership of Registered Nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process. Nursing Associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment; and will act in accordance with the NMC Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives and nursing associates.
