An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Phlebotomy team based at Freeman Hospital for a post of 30 hours per week working 0700-1300 on a rotational basis. As a Phlebotomist, you are an integral part of the NHS, working closely with doctors, nurses, and healthcare science staff. You will be required to take blood samples from inpatients on wards, ensuring they are correctly labelled and delivered promptly to the laboratories for analysis. These samples need to be stored and transported appropriately during this process. This position requires an individual with a sympathetic approach whilst dealing with patients who could be nervous or require specialist care. Follow aspect techniques and guidelines at all times. We are looking for a caring and professional individual who has the ability to work alone as well as part of a team. We welcome any interested applicants to an informal visit.

Main duties of the job
* Taking blood from patients whilst in hospital (venepuncture).
* Following policies and procedures.
* Store blood securely.
* Promptly deliver samples to Laboratories.
* Working closely with the team as well as working alone on wards delivering safe care.
* To be able to have a rapport with nervous patients.
* Sympathetic approach.
Job responsibilities
* By working with colleagues, provide a hospital-wide phlebotomy service in allocated clinical areas.
* To perform venepuncture blood collection as requested by medical/nursing staff.
* To ensure blood samples are labelled correctly in line with Trust recommendations.
Person Specification
Knowledge
* Basic IT Skills.
* Basic understanding of safeguarding.
Skills
* Effective organisation and time management skills.
* Able to work effectively within a team and under own direction as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Dexterity at a level to perform phlebotomy duties.
Experience
* Ability to plan and prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities.
* Experience of caring in a personal or professional setting.
Qualifications
* Good literacy and numeracy skills.
Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month's pay.
