Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Year 2 (1-to-1 Support for Child with Autism)
Location: Primary School, Blackburn
Contract: Full-time
I am looking for a Teaching Assistant to join a Primary School in Blackburn. The successful candidate will provide one-to-one support to a Year 2 student with autism and complex needs. This child is non-verbal but has an understanding. While they are highly active and find it difficult to engage in the classroom setting, your role will be pivotal in helping them participate in activities and achieve their individual learning goals.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the child with their academic tasks and social interactions
Assisting with communication, using alternative methods where necessary
Providing some intimate care, although the child isn't in nappies, support is required with accidents
Promoting positive behaviour and helping the child stay engaged in classroom activities
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to develop and implement individualised strategiesExperience required:
Due to the position being a long term contract, we need someone who has experience working 1-to-1 with complex needs previously and experience as a Teaching Assistant in a similar setting
Have experience working with children with autism and complex needs
Be patient, caring, and adaptable, with a commitment to supporting children to thrive
Have strong communication skills, with an ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
