Technical Services consultant (Policy, Rules and Legislation) An exciting opportunity to Benefits Unit as a Technical Services Consultant focussing on ensuring that Railpen administers schemes in accordance with their rules and pensions legislation and on steering administration policy. This is a permanent role within Railpen’s Technical Policy and Services team based in our Darlington office and offering home working with occasional travel to our Darlington office. The role As a Technical Services Consultant (Policy, Rules and Legislation) you will provide pensions technical support to the Technical Policy and Services team and other areas of the business, to ensure that Railpen administers the rail schemes in accordance with their rules, pensions legislation and the regulatory regime. You will work towards acquiring and maintaining an in depth understanding and knowledge of the rail schemes’ rules and the wider pensions environment, and how any changes in these will impact administration processes and members’ benefits, in order to help develop administrative policy and practices. You will also share this knowledge with other stakeholders. The person We are looking for someone who has an in depth understanding and knowledge of the UK pensions regime and general pension administration processes, as well as a general appreciation of scheme rules and pensions taxation legislation. Therefore, a background in the pensions industry is key for this role, as is being technically focused with an enthusiasm to keep up to date on emerging pensions developments. Knowledge of DB pensions is essential, and knowledge of DC arrangements would be beneficial too. The successful candidate will have good analytical and investigative skills and will clearly document their work. You will also have the ability to communicate effectively (both in writing and verbally) and to explain complex information clearly and unambiguously. We are looking for someone who is customer service driven and has the ability to balance priorities and workloads whilst understanding the importance of meeting service-level agreements and proactively managing customer expectations.
