Post Title
Team Leader
Responsible to: Deputy Manager, Nursery Manager
Purpose of Post
To provide high quality childcare for children and their families and contribute towards the daily operation of the nursery ensuring the highest possible standard of care is provided. To lead a team and assume the Manager's duties in her absence, cascading good practice throughout the setting.
Line Management Responsibilities
To support all members of the nursery team above and below their own position.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
1. To lead a room within the nursery and set a visible leadership example to staff, children and their families.
2. To assist in developing the nursery ethos of creating a welcoming and family friendly environment.
3. To be a member of the management team and contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and development of the nursery.
4. To ensure high standards of care and education of children in accordance with statutory requirements, Ofsted standards and nursery policies.
5. To ensure the EYFS is promoted and delivered within the setting.
6. To ensure effective communication between nursery staff and all partner organisations.
7. To keep a register and up to date record of all staff and children, maintaining correct ratios at all times.
8. To ensure the safety of children, staff and visitors to the nursery.
9. To create partnership with parents and provide regular feedback about progress and development.
10. To ensure strategies for behaviour management remain consistent, effective and appropriate.
11. To attend staff meetings.
12. To maintain records detailing accidents, incidents, medication etc.
13. To inform line manager of any important issues/events that have occurred daily.
Supervision and Management
1. To supervise, monitor, develop and appraise junior staff and apprentices.
2. To assess staff performance and provide feedback for professional development.
3. To identify staff training needs and facilitate training opportunities.
4. To manage the work of supply staff and supervise students on placement.
5. To ensure that all key practitioners are supporting their groups and address issues promptly.
6. To work with the nursery manager and deputy, taking day to day responsibility for care and education planning.
7. To ensure that the nursery provision is clean, safe and welcoming.
8. To manage staff issues and be aware of disciplinary procedures.
9. To ensure daily, weekly and monthly planning is prepared and executed.
Creativity and Innovation
1. To plan and monitor the nursery and implement essential policies and procedures.
2. To implement policies (E.g. Health & Safety) in relation to staff, buildings and resources.
3. To work towards raising self-esteem of team members.
4. To show flexibility and commitment when implementing changes.
5. To promote children's rights, equality, inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice.
6. To lead reflection meetings, showing respect for team ideas.
7. To create a dynamic environment that reflects children's interests.
