About the Role
The Student Wellbeing Adviser will work collaboratively with the Student Life & Wellbeing Manager and Student Services Team to provide a professional point of contact for both incoming and registered students who need advice and assistance with health and wellbeing concerns, either from transition to higher education or throughout their studies. The role holder will provide a comprehensive listening, support, signposting and, when appropriate, a ‘follow-up’ service to ensure practical and emotional support to students experiencing a wide variety of problems that are affecting their studies and/ or mental health and wellbeing.
Key Stakeholders are the Head of Student Services, Deputy Head of Student Services, Campus Manager, Academic Manager, Student Life & Wellbeing Manager, Academic Support Officers, Disability Advisers, Mental Health Advisers, the Academic Team and Students.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Act as an appropriate point of contact and coordination for other professional support services within AD Education UK for consultation on matters relating to the wellbeing of students who present to those services.
✅ Support students with disabilities, diagnosed (and undiagnosed) Specific Learning difficulties, mental health and / or medical conditions, hearing and vision impairments; requiring additional support to access and participate in the learning environment, creating Support Agreements, identifying and communicating reasonable adjustments, as required.
✅ Employ a high level of expertise in assessment and risk management to ensure students have access to appropriate support packages, including internal and external support by taking on a liaison, signposting and linking role.
✅ Provide support for students’ pre-entry in ways that smooth the transition into HE and maximise take up of existing support provision, working closely with key stakeholders across AD Education UK, facilitating any needed communication with Disability Advisers, Mental Health Advisers, Academic Support Officers.
✅ Facilitate Wellbeing Drop-in sessions for students.
✅ Providing advice and signposting for students facing financial / hardship difficulties.
✅ Providing advice and signposting for students experiencing problems with their student accommodation or facing homelessness.
✅ To deliver effective processes, procedures and wider initiatives to support students in non-medical crisis, including, but not limited to, homelessness, domestic violence, severe financial crisis, etc.
✅ Supporting care-experienced students and estranged students by providing practical guidance and emotional support.
✅ Provide information, advice and guidance to all students and colleagues, on how wellbeing may impact upon academic study, with further signposting to practical support including but not limited to mental wellbeing, accommodation and money advice.
✅ Use available student data, such as assessment and submission data. notifications of absences, late submissions of work and overall student engagement data, in order to identify and intervene to encourage students to engage with support before concerns escalate.
✅ Act as a link between AD Education UK and outside agencies by developing strong links with internal and external professionals, along with local NHS Early Prevention and Complex Case Teams, voluntary groups and societies in order to offer joined up and wide ranging support and resources.
✅ Working in collaboration with the Success &Transition Co-ordinator and Personal Tutors in ensuring the delivery of a high-quality and effective personal tutoring system.
✅ Contribute to the co-ordination and/ or delivery of wellbeing related projects (e.g. sense of belonging & peer mentoring schemes, weekend open days, induction events, information drop-ins etc.).
✅ Under the direction of the Student Life & Wellbeing Manager & Head of Student Services, support students progressing through the Support to Study and Fitness to Study processes.
✅ Act as a point of support to assist students to return to study following a mental health crisis or period of disengagement.
✅ As Safeguarding Officer for SAE London, identify at-risk students, act as a point of contact for key stakeholders to report cause for concerns regarding students, escalate concerns to the Deputy / Designated Safeguarding Lead and signposting undergraduate and postgraduate students to external specialist services or local authorities as appropriate.
