Job overview
We are recruiting a housekeeper for Child and Adolescent Unit at Rochford Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and professional housekeeper to be part of the support team at Poplar Adolescent Unit to provide a high quality housekeeping service. The ideal candidate will be approachable, flexible and willing to work as part of a team.
Poplar Adolescent Unit cares for 13-18 year olds in mental health crisis. The successful applicant will be working as part of the housekeeping team supporting Ward Staff in maintaining the ward environment, and working with the young people to meet their housekeeping needs.
Main duties of the job
* Support clinical staff by addressing the non-clinical needs of the patients in achieving an excellent level of customer service, by ensuring that the patient environment is a welcoming, clean, comfortable, and safe.
* Support the Senior Sister, Charge Nurse and Ward Staff in maintaining the ward environment, liaise closely with the Facilities Service Manager and the Estates Help Desk, ensuring that all issues pertaining to the patients’ environment and needs are dealt with efficiently.
* Support the young people by ensuring lunch and dinner is provided (training will be given), and support young people to cook meals where appropriate in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Work with the domestic staff allocated to your ward(s) to ensure that there is a high standard of cleanliness.
* Spot clean and ensure spillages are dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
* Bring to the attention of nursing staff any shortfalls in cleanliness of patient equipment.
* Undertake cleaning of spillages, including body fluids in line with Trust infection control policies and procedures.
* Have an awareness of all infection control issues.
* Arrange for specialist cleaning as and when required, i.e. carpet cleaning, deep cleaning.
* Ensure that the patient has all toiletry requisites.
* Keep the unit tidy by encouraging both staff and patients to be aware of the standards expected by PLACE.
* Ensure that segregation and disposal of waste is done according to the Trust’s Waste Management Policy.
* Take responsibility to ensure that mandatory training is up to date.
* Able to access and keep self-updated via eLearning/OLM.
* Be aware of one’s own self-development needs and attend appropriate courses as agreed at appraisal.
* Attend in-service and other training as required, including food hygiene, infection control.
* Be aware of the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy, ensuring that a full understanding of the duty of care to patients, visitors, other members of staff and yourself is upheld at all times.
* Liaise with clinical staff and the catering Department to ensure that patients’ dietary needs are catered for wherever possible.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
* Good General Education
* Basic numeracy and literacy
* Previous experience of working within a care setting
* NVQ care or Equivalent
Knowledge
* I.T. Literate
* Able to work with minimal supervision
* Awareness of safe practice regarding; Infection control, Food hygiene, Dietary needs, Knowledge of Care Programme approach
* Health and safety Awareness/Courses
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
* Knowledge of COSHH
