Reporting to the Chief Engineer based in Coventry and working closely alongside the rest of the first line management team to deliver a supported and efficient workshops.
The Quality Manager – Workshops will educate the workshop team on the importance of product quality and ensure that the workshop standards and processes for working safely and efficiently are adhered to.
They will be accountable for the maintenance of the Workshop Business Management System and ensure that all of the WKS owned processes are efficient and effective. They will be responsible for ensuring that all the deliverables from the Workshop are conforming to the customer specifications.
In addition, they will lead the Quality and Admin team based within our Workshops.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Create and own the vision of Product Quality across the MTC Workshops.
2. Drive a quality-based culture within the MTC.
3. Reinforce the importance of understanding and fulfilling customer specifications.
4. Delivery of robust system and practices to continuously deliver high-quality performance.
5. Lead and support process creation and development within the workshop such as calibration, workshop visual management, non-conformance reporting including rework and concessions, facility cleanliness, standards setting, Continuous Improvement and KPI measurement.
6. Ensure that work complies with the relevant standards.
7. Create and conduct an internal audit programme to ensure compliance to all Workshop and MTC processes.
8. Manage the Quality and Admin team to support the WKS to deliver the customer requirements.
9. Drive a culture of continuous improvement and a “just” culture around problem-solving.
Person Specification
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
1. Degree level, or equivalent, education in an appropriate discipline or appropriate experience.
2. Membership of a relevant professional institution.
3. At least 10 years' experience focused on operations management in a quality critical environment.
4. Experience working in a matrix management organisation delivering results with people who don't necessarily work for you.
5. Experience of delivering projects and programmes in a collaborative environment.
6. A proven track record in leading a shop floor based quality or EHS function.
7. Determined and resilient in applying Quality best practices and ethos.
8. An understanding of high value manufacturing processes and systems.
9. Self-motivated with ability to meet deadlines.
10. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
11. Ability to work within a team-focused environment.
12. Experience managing complex customer problems with a recognised Problem Management structure i.e. 8D.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience
1. Project management skills such as stakeholder management, organisation, planning, requirement capture etc.
2. Experience leading Business Improvement activities. Green belt or Black Belt qualified.
