DEEP Institute’s elite teams of saturation divers will deploy, test, occupy and subsequently handover habitats to clients around the world. Our submersibles teams will train pilots and operators in the UK and overseas to safely and efficiently operate crewed submersibles to support our habitats and for the purposes of scientific research. We will crew research and training facilities both offshore and onshore in multiple territories and international waters 24/7, 365. You will make all of this happen. All of DEEP’s missions must be managed with extraordinary attention to detail and a bias for over-communication upwards, sideways and downwards within our dynamic and fast-paced organisation. This is the role of DEEP Institute’s Senior Programme Manager. In this role, you will lead and coordinate multiple complex projects related to overseas maritime operations, submersibles deployments, diver and submersibles training, establishment of forward operating bases, and other critical training, missions and engineering tasks. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a proactive approach to communication, and the ability to manage and report on the fine details of project planning and execution. Working together, we will ensure that with your planning, governance and programme management rigour, all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. Reporting directly to DEEP Institute’s Chief of Staff, this role is critical for the smooth execution of high-risk, high-impact operations and requires an experienced professional with a strong background in programme management, preferably with a pedigree for managing expeditionary maritime or engineering missions. This role requires exceptional strategic oversight, extensive experience in programme management, and the ability to manage and report on the fine details of project planning and execution at a senior level. The Senior Programme Manager will also mentor and guide a small team of Programme / Project Managers, focused on the delivery of timebound project deliveries such as individual habitats deployments, ensuring that all projects align with the organisation’s strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Programme Oversight: Oversee and guide the management of multiple, simultaneous high-stakes projects related to UK and overseas maritime operations, including submersibles deployments, diver and submersibles training, and the establishment of forward operating bases. Develop and implement programme strategies that align with the company’s broader objectives, ensuring that all projects contribute to the organization's long-term success. Taking a systems approach to building processes that allow repeat activities to become easily executed and understood as a ‘drill’, getting easier every time. Provide high-level oversight and leadership to Programme / Project Managers and cross-functional teams, ensuring all project timelines, milestones, and dependencies are strategically aligned. Executive Reporting and Communication: Report on programme progress to the executive team and PMO, providing strategic insights and detailed analysis of project and missions performance. Ensure that communication of project status, risks, and issues is handled at a senior level, with a focus on aligning project outcomes with business goals. Lead strategic discussions and decision-making processes, providing guidance on complex issues and ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged. Advanced Budget and Resource Management: Manage and oversee the development of project budgets across multiple high-stakes programmes, ensuring that financial resources are allocated effectively and efficiently. Conduct in-depth financial analysis, providing strategic recommendations to optimize programme budget utilization and mitigate financial risks. Ensure that all programmes are delivered within budgetary constraints while achieving the highest standards of quality and operational effectiveness. Leadership and Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to Project Managers, helping them to navigate complex project challenges and develop their skills. Lead by example in managing large, multi-disciplinary teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Develop and implement training and development plans for programme management staff to build organizational capacity and capability. Strategic Risk Management: Develop and implement advanced risk management strategies, identifying potential risks at a strategic level and putting in place robust contingency plans. Oversee the development of comprehensive risk management frameworks, ensuring that all high-risk scenarios are anticipated and managed effectively. Ensure that all project activities comply with advanced safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, particularly in international contexts. What you will need: Essential: MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) Practitioner, PgMP (Program Management Professional), PMI PMP (Project Management Professional) or advanced PMP/PRINCE2 certification. Strong background in risk management and compliance in high-risk industries. Extensive experience in programme management. Extensive experience leading large-scale, complex programmes with significant strategic impact. Proven experience mentoring and leading other Programme/Project Managers or large cross-functional teams. Proven track record leading delivery of complex Project or Programmes, working with budgets of £50M. Expert Microsoft Project skills. Desirable: APM Chartered Project Professional (ChPP). Degree in Project / Programme Management. Experience in international maritime operations and logistics.
