The Bladder and Bowel Service is a multi-professional service working across BNSSG. Adults are seen in clinics to diagnose and treat continence or other bladder and bowel problems.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent clinician with an interest in continence care. Training will be available for all aspects of the role for clinicians who demonstrate the potential to fulfil the position.
We deliver community Bladder and Bowel Services through specialist advice and guidance, teaching self-management strategies through face-to-face clinics and other media to all professionals, patients, and members of the public. Provide education, training, and workforce planning to Sirona staff and external partners, working with colleagues across BNSSG and supporting the urology and colorectal formulary. The service also manages the contract for the continence products home delivery service.
This role will focus on the services provided within residential homes and to monitor and advise nursing home colleagues.
Current working hours of the service: 8 am - 5 pm, 5 days a week (The service specification, however, asks for the service to extend their core hours and develop 7-day working).
Teams are based across several locations within BNSSG, with a variety of clinic bases across the region.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide specialist advice and support on the promotion of continence and management of incontinence.
2. Assist the Specialist Clinicians, Clinical Team Leaders, and Administration Team in managing the Bladder and Bowel caseload (adult).
3. Work autonomously in care homes, clinics, and people's own homes.
4. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of continence care that is research and evidence-based, ensuring a patient-centred service which incorporates appropriate ethical and moral dimensions of practice.
5. Be competent in or willing to train to become competent in bladder scanning, bladder emptying techniques, and bowel management techniques.
6. Manage the process for continence products in accordance with continence assessments.
7. Support staff within the team and wider community to enable people to self-manage their presenting condition and provide an outcome-focused intention to care, treatment, and improvement.
8. Work within a multi-disciplinary team, providing integrated skills and sharing knowledge.
9. Support and educate patients and their carers to promote independence and good health.
10. Assess, supervise, and act as a role model to other learners.
11. Maintain accurate, informative, and legal records of all interventions in accordance with policy.
