An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic Occupational Therapist with a passion for community rehabilitation, supporting people in their own homes with frailty, neurological conditions, dementia and many other long-term conditions at all stages of their rehab journey including hospital discharge and continuing healthcare assessments.
The Community Therapy Team South Cumbria is seeking to appoint a Band 7 clinical lead Occupational Therapist to work as part of our new integrated therapy service.
You will bring your expertise as a senior OT to promote functional rehab for patients and provide clinical leadership to the occupational therapy team.
The therapy team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, assistant Practitioners and therapy assistants.
You will be working closely with other professionals in the team, including the physiotherapy clinical lead, and will acquire holistic assessment skills to support your core Occupational Therapy knowledge, while treating patients in their own environment.
The service covers Monday to Friday, 8am-6:30pm and Saturday/Sunday 9am-5pm.
The successful candidate's base would be agreed on appointment but the post is required to support both South Lakes and Furness area.

Main duties of the job
1. To work independently as an autonomous practitioner within the specified advanced clinical area(s) to be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with complex conditions appropriate to advanced knowledge and skill level and experience: providing flexible and patient-centred programmes of Occupational Therapy (OT) interventions.
2. To lead in the specified clinical area(s) with advanced knowledge, skills and experience to advise and support staff on managing complex clinical issues for the within the Community Therapy Team.
3. Contribute to service improvement and development in the specified clinical area(s) in response to evidence-based practice and national clinical guidelines.
4. Provide leadership for staff and students working in the Community Therapy Team through team leadership, supervision, appraisal and development process, performance management and preceptorship.
5. Lead clinical audits, undertake designated research and projects.
6. To lead on implementing service improvement and developments for the service.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Education and qualifications
* Health Professions Council registered Occupational Therapist.
* Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Post graduate training in specified clinical area to masters level or equivalent.
* Leadership and first line management training.
* Training in risk assessment and risk management.
Experience
* Relevant knowledge, skills and experience at OT (Specialist) level working as an experienced autonomous practitioner.
* Experience as a supervisor of students, registered OT’s or support staff or designated health/social care workers.
* Leadership and first line management experience.
* Experience of research and clinical audit.
Skills, ability and knowledge
* Transferable knowledge and skills at OT Specialist level.
* Advanced assessment, observation, evaluation and reporting skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities.
