Permanent GP Pharmacy Technician required at AspiroHealthcare, Derby
AspiroHealthcare is looking for a Pharmacy Technician who is enthusiastic, motivated, reliable, experienced, good humored and hardworking to join our forward-thinking practice.
The post holder will work closely with the clinical pharmacists, receptionists, and clinicians to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective prescribing. The role will be supported by the Clinical Pharmacists and Line Manager who will develop, manage, and mentor.
The candidate must be a keen learner and be able work to high standards. Previous general practice experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. A good understanding of community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy is essential.
The candidate should be a registered Pharmacy Technician, or suitable for registration. Recently qualified Pharmacy Technicians are welcome to apply, as training will be provided to develop your knowledge and skill.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the practice to deal with acute prescription requests, medication reconciliation on transfer of care and ensure the implementation of systems for safer prescribing within our practices. The post holder will support integration with community pharmacy and hospital teams to help utilise skill mix, improve patient outcomes and reduce workload. The post holder will be trained and supported to undertake audits for high-risk medication prescribing.

Job responsibilities
* Reduce inappropriate polypharmacy and wasteful prescribing.
* Reconcile medicines following hospital discharge and work with patients and community pharmacists to ensure patients receive the medicines they need post discharge.
* Interface with community and hospital pharmacy colleagues to ensure medication related queries are addressed in a timely manner.
* Manage the repeat prescribing reauthorisation process by reviewing requests for repeat prescriptions and medicines reaching review dates.
* Manage patients and health care professionals' medication related queries.
* Increase quality and safety of prescribing through mechanisms such as audits.
* Help implement drug withdrawals and alerts e.g. MHRA aimed at improving medicines safety.
* Work with primary care professionals and patients to implement NICE and other evidence-based guidelines.
* Provide medicines information and training to Practice healthcare professionals and admin staff.
* Act as a source of medicines information for all of the practice team and patients (e.g. around doses, side effects, adverse events, possible alternatives e.g. around out of stocks).
* Support clinical teams with managing out of stock medication queries.
* Liaise with ICB colleagues on prescribing related matters to ensure consistency of patient care and cost-effective prescribing.
* Liaise with other GP Practices and staff as needed for the collective benefit of patients.

Experience
* Working in a hospital or community pharmacy.
* Evidence of good IT skills, e.g., Microsoft Office applications.
* Ability to effectively deal with customers/patients in person or by telephone and be able to handle difficult conversations.
* Counselling patients in use of their medicines.
* Working knowledge of using SystmOne.
* Customer care skills.
* Knowledge of medicines, including how to handle potentially hazardous medicines/substances.
* Supervisory role within pharmacy.

* Evidence of working to standard operating procedures.

Qualifications
