Job responsibilities
JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Staff Nurse
BAND: Nursing & Midwifery Band 5
LOCATION: Intensive Care Unit
PROFESSIONALLY ACCOUNTABLE TO: Matron
REPORTS TO: Unit Sister/Charge Nurse
Key Responsibilities
* To assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care in the best interest of the patients, providing feedback to the Unit team members.
* To ensure clear and concise reporting, oral and written, of relevant information regarding the care and well-being of the patients.
* To discuss with senior colleagues the development and changes, both nursing and medical, which affect patients directly and indirectly.
* To actively participate in team nursing and the development of nursing responsibilities for individual patients, being responsible for the organisation of nursing care assigned to them.
* To take appropriate action to ensure the safety of patients, including the delegation of patient care to nurses with the appropriate level of skill at all times.
* To maintain clear and effective communication with patients, relatives, and visitors to the Unit.
* To ensure that nursing procedures are implemented and maintained in accordance with the policies of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
* To assist medical staff and carry out procedures and treatments prescribed by them.
* To liaise effectively with other members of the multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of coordinated care to the patient.
* To maintain personal/professional status by ensuring compliance with NMC requirements.
* To lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas, and skills in the clinical area.
* To attend professional meetings and study sessions as appropriate and keep an up-to-date professional portfolio.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse.
* Evidence of continuing education for more experienced Band 5 nurses in Critical Care.
* Critical Care Modules at Level 2 minimum.
* Teaching and Assessing Certificate.
Experience
* Would suit recently returned to nursing candidate or more experienced Band 5.
* Proven knowledge base/experience in Critical Care or in an Acute setting.
Knowledge and Skills
* Able to use own initiative.
* Calm, able to prioritise and make decisions appropriately.
* Interest in teaching others.
* Willing to develop supervision and organisational skills.
* Able to care for patients undergoing haemodynamic monitoring.
* Experience of dialysis.
Personal Qualities
* Able to work in a team.
* Deliver high care standards in line with Clinical Governance.
* Confident, consistent, flexible, punctual, and reliable.
* Demonstrates attention to detail.
* Motivated and keen to support and develop new ideas.
Other Job Requirements
* Completion of KSF outline within agreed timescales.
* The post holder may occasionally be required to work in other areas of the hospital.
* Undertake shifts as required.
* Due to the nature of our work, this post is deemed to require Enhanced Disclosure Clearance.
* Computer literate as appropriate to the post.
* Willing to undertake training and self-development with the ability to complete feedback.
