Lead the Digital Architecture Behind Scotland’s Future of Health & Care
Are you a strategic systems architect ready to take the lead on one of Scotland’s most ambitious digital transformation programmes?
Location: Scotland (Hybrid/Remote)
Duration: 6 months (with potential extension)
Day Rate: up to 330PD
A flagship, government-sponsored digital programme is seeking a Systems & Architecture Consultant to lead the development of national digital platform services that enhance access to health and social care across Scotland.
You’ll play a strategic leadership role in shaping architecture, driving integration, and guiding delivery of technologies critical to the Digital Front Door and related initiatives.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead systems and enterprise architecture design for national digital services.
2. Develop and maintain architectural blueprints & decision records via Technical Design Authority.
3. Guide integration of new national technologies with local NHS and care systems (e.g. GP2GP, ECS, SCI Store).
4. Define a target operating model for national architecture maturity.
5. Collaborate with NHS boards, local authorities, and digital teams on future capabilities.
Qualifications:
1. Senior-level architecture leadership in health, care, or public sector environments.
2. Strong experience in technical strategy, architectural governance, and solution design.
3. Ability to lead complex architectural decisions with high risk and impact.
4. Skilled in engaging senior stakeholders across government, NHS, and local authorities.
5. Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and influence beyond organisational boundaries.
6. In-depth knowledge of Scotland’s health and care digital landscape.
7. Excellent communication – able to present complex ideas clearly across audiences.
8. Strategic and analytical thinker with a strong delivery focus.
9. Values-led leadership with resilience and adaptability.
10. Able to work independently, prioritise, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
11. Familiarity with NHS Scotland and local government digital ecosystems.
12. Skilled in planning, execution, and progress reporting at senior levels.
13. Understanding of Scotland’s long-term health and social care vision.
