As part of our Waterfront Staff, you would be part of the Camp Grossman Team of Lifeguards/Swim Instructors and Boating Staff who are responsible for ensuring our campers learn to swim and enjoy the water in a safe, fun and supportive environment. To be considered for a Waterfront Staff and/or Boating Specialist position, you must be able to show proof of current Lifeguard certification or be willing and available to take and pass a course (for which you may be eligible for partial reimbursement) prior to the opening of camp. Boating Staff must also successfully pass an online boating safety course. Primary responsibilities include, and are not limited to:
* Work in partnership with peers and camp leadership to provide a happy, safe, and memorable summer for children
* Ensure camper (and counselor) safety at all times, both in and out of the water, setting a tone that emphasizes waterfront safety while encouraging fun
* Teach children about waterfront rules and safety practices
* May be asked to participate in planning and overseeing some general camp activities
* Depending on the assignment, additional responsibilities will include some combination of the following: lifeguarding, providing swimming lessons, managing boat equipment, and helping campers develop confidence and skills through mentoring and encouragement
* Work collaboratively with the other Waterfront Staff and the Waterfront Director to evaluate and document placements and swim levels, and permissions for all campers
* Role will also include between one or three evenings of lifeguarding (after regular camp hours) throughout the course of the summer

JOB DETAILS: We are an outdoor camp, located on beautiful, wooded property in Dover, MA. This is an hourly position, Monday - Friday, for the camp season. The regular Camp day begins when you arrive at Camp (typically between 8:15 and 9:15, depending on your role and transportation) and ends at 4. In addition, all Waterfront and Boating Staff are expected to attend 3 or 4 staff meetings on Monday evenings at JCC Greater Boston, as well as also work 2 or 3 additional evenings after camp over the course of the summer. Education and Experience:
* Must be at least 15 years-old, have completed or are completing 10th grade, and able to get a work permit
* Current Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification
* Completion of on-line Boating Safety course (which we will coordinate and for which we reimburse) for all Boating Staff
* Experience working with children is a plus
* Experience working in and/or attending summer camp is a plus

Physical Requirements:
* Capable of working in a high temperature, sunny, and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipment
* Must be able to work in-person, on-site in Dover, Massachusetts
* Must be able to navigate 70 acres of rugged, uneven and rustic campgrounds independently
* Comfortable working all or most of the day outdoors or inside without air conditioning
* Able to work well in a busy, dynamic and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities
* Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children’s backpacks etc.)
* Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly
* Must maintain an appropriate level of fitness in order to competently perform all job related tasks including the ability to swim distances and dive to swimming area depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment
