Job Overview
One Dorset Pathology (ODP) is seeking an exceptional individual to join our senior leadership team. Your role will be overall management and strategic development of our NHS microbiology laboratory service throughout the county of Dorset.
The service is provided out of three laboratories: one based at Dorset County Hospital and one at each of the University Hospitals Dorset sites (Poole Hospital and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital).
A transformation programme is currently underway to consolidate the Poole and Royal Bournemouth Hospital laboratories at our recently commissioned, state-of-the-art, ODP hub on the Bournemouth site. This program is expected to be completed during January 2025.
We provide a full bacteriology and virology diagnostic service for primary and secondary care and invite HCPC registered candidates with suitable laboratory management and microbiology specific expertise to apply.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Responsibility for the operational planning, organisation, and delivery of the quality diagnostic services within One Dorset Pathology to ensure service outcomes in collaboration with the Pathology management, Heads of Services and Clinical Leads.
2. Managerial responsibility for non-clinical staff in the Microbiology services on the three sites within Dorset.
3. To form part of the senior management team within the pathology service, taking a key role in the direction of the service, and is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of developments.
4. Responsible for ensuring resources are used effectively and efficiently whilst adhering to Trust Standard Financial Instructions (SFIs) and delivering agreed cost improvements allocated by the Trust.
5. Responsible for the operational delivery of all local and national targets relating to service standards and turnaround times.
6. Responsible for effective liaison with service users in line with the Pathology strategy, developing services across the healthcare community both locally and within Dorset.
7. To be responsible for local compliance with all relevant legislation and accreditation frameworks as assessed by bodies such as UKAS, MHRA, HTA, HSE and CQC and take a lead operational role in the laboratories for implementation of the Pathology Quality Management system.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria
* BSc (Hons) BMS or equivalent
* HCPC BMS Registration
* MSc or equivalent
* Management qualification or equivalent
* Evidence of commitment to Continuing Professional Development
Desirable Criteria
* Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
Knowledge & Experience
Essential Criteria
* Wide experience within the NHS
* Demonstrable skills of problem solving and change management
* Demonstrable management experience
* Financial and budgetary management
* Knowledge of Trust policies and procedures
* Requirements for Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UKAS) compliance
* Detailed knowledge of standard IT packages e.g. word processing and spreadsheets
* Detailed knowledge of H&S requirements, including COSHH regulations
Desirable Criteria
* Evidence of experience of compliance with appropriate accreditation bodies (MHRA, HTA, UKAS)
