Job Purpose The post holder will effectively manage the education for both the YDP and FDP phases to ensure that a balanced programme is achieved. This includes the establishment and ongoing liaison/monitoring of all young players within their respective schools by gathering every young player's school reports three times per year where possible. This will be achieved by face-to-face or email liaison with the relevant teachers through a contact strategy devised on a traffic light system. The role involves the coordination and management of the day-to-day operations of the Schoolboy Education program, providing onsite education support when necessary, liaising with parents, and delivering life-skills workshops for both parents and players in collaboration with other HoDs on the Champions Programme. The holder also liaises closely with the Senior Safeguarding Manager as the U9-16 DSO, making home/school visits when necessary and being responsible for all players on the Hybrid Program. Resources Management Management responsibility for: 9-16 Academy Education Reports to: Head of Education and Welfare Key Responsibilities (Education) Create a record of every young player's education progress and attainment through the gathering of school reports (three times per year where possible). Establish specific links at schools with relevant staff for every young player. Provide feedback to schools about the progress of young players using the PMA on a 6/12 week basis. Devise a contact strategy to ensure that each player's school receives email correspondence or a face-to-face visit. Ensure every young player on the programme is suitably inducted, placed on the correct courses/levels, and appropriately supported. Supervise/deliver education support when necessary at the training ground. Be present at parent evenings where applicable. Adapt the programme according to player development/academic attainment needs. Liaise closely with the lead phase coach and U16 coach daily and maintain up-to-date registers of attendance and training. Devise a life skills education programme with other HoDs covering topics like social media, rest, recovery, nutrition, and mental skills (Champions Programme). Key Responsibilities (Designated Safeguarding Officer) All responsibilities relate directly to the new EFL Safeguarding Standards. Support the development and delivery of the Club’s safeguarding strategy, vision, and values. Proactively safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk, ensuring that all Academy staff, volunteers, parents, and players understand their role in safeguarding. Report, manage, and refer safeguarding and/or poor practice concerns in line with Club Safeguarding Policy and guidance from the EFL and FA. Manage concerns about allegations of abuse or poor practice by staff or volunteers according to relevant club policies regarding the Academy. Use the electronic system (My Concern) to keep high-quality and confidential records of incidents relating to child welfare, maintaining confidentiality and secure information retention in accordance with the Club Data Protection Policy. Collaborate to apply the EFL’s Safeguarding Standards across the Academy and ensure compliance. Identify Academy safeguarding training needs and facilitate or deliver training to ensure all staff/volunteers undertake appropriate training for their work with children. Ensure all staff/volunteers within the Academy have appropriate and regularly updated DBS clearance in line with FA and EFL guidelines. Ensure the Academy has appropriate policies and procedures for identifying and reporting concerns or disclosures related to safeguarding. Contribute to capturing and reporting safeguarding data to the line manager. Disseminate up-to-date legislative and good practice requirements regarding safeguarding to all staff working with children. Liaise with parents/guardians/carers and authorities regarding safeguarding concerns. Promote a positive safeguarding culture across the Academy by minimizing and mitigating risks. Maintain safeguarding knowledge by attending relevant training, workshops, and participating in EFL and FA networks. Build and maintain relationships with key external agencies/partners such as the Police, Local Safeguarding Partnerships, and Safeguarding Adults Boards. Conduct visits to at-risk young players, families, and schools alongside the Education department. Attend U9 – U16 fixtures and be present at daytime and evening training sessions twice a week. Support the design and delivery of the Academy’s Champions Program in collaboration with the Education department.
