Independent Member of Council (Digital and Technology)

City St George’s, University of London came into being in August 2024, as a result of the merger of City, University of London and St George’s, University of London. The combined institution is a powerful new multi-faculty, multi-campus university and is one of the largest higher education providers in London. The strategic alignment of subject mix and ethos of City and of St George’s has created a powerhouse for students, researchers, and partners. Advantages in terms of scale, reach, capability and resilience enable the University to provide a full-service Higher Education that is innovative and responds to society’s future needs.
The Council (broadly equivalent to strategic board) has overall responsibility for the strategy, direction and performance of City St George’s, ensuring that the best interests of stakeholders are met, notably students, staff, external partners and alumni. As the new institution develops, we have a vacancy for a new Council member with expertise in digital and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide governance and strategic direction related to digital and technology initiatives.
2. Advise on strategic digital transformation and risk management in areas such as cybersecurity.
3. Support technology-enhanced learning initiatives.
Ideal Candidate:
Ideal candidates will bring experience at board level, ideally in a large complex organisation. They will have the emotional intelligence and judgement to contribute thoughtfully and with integrity. They will have a strong commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
Members of Council shall be appointed for a term of up to three years, renewable to a maximum of nine years in total. The Charter states that the total period of membership will be nine years or three terms of three years in any one capacity.
Ordinary independent members of Council will typically spend around eight hours a month on the role.
