About the Role We are seeking a skilled and motivated EV Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. You will play a key role in the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This role involves working closely with project managers, civil engineers, and external stakeholders to ensure the successful deployment of EV charging solutions across various locations. Key Responsibilities Design electrical systems for EV charging infrastructure, including power distribution, load management, and protection systems. Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings for charging stations. Perform electrical calculations, including load flow, short circuit analysis, and voltage drop assessments. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (BS 7671, IET Code of Practice for EV Charging, IEC 61851, and others). Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to determine optimal electrical configurations. Coordinate with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) for grid connections and capacity approvals. Support the procurement and specification of electrical components such as switchgear, transformers, and distribution panels. Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning of EV charging infrastructure. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical design issues that arise during the project lifecycle. Work closely with software and controls engineers to integrate smart charging and load balancing technologies. Stay updated on emerging EV charging technologies and industry best practices. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards professional accreditation (IET, IEEE, or equivalent) is desirable. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in electrical design, preferably within the EV, renewables, or power distribution sectors. Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, Amtech, or similar tools. Strong understanding of power systems, LV and MV electrical networks, and grid connections. Familiarity with EV charging technologies, including AC and DC fast charging systems. Experience with DNO applications, network studies, and regulatory compliance. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Full UK driving license and willingness to travel when required.
