Following the unprecedented success of our West Midlands training scheme last year, BBC Studios Drama Productions are looking for expressions of interests for Grip Trainee opportunities on Silent Witness.
Eligibility is a requirement of our funding and means we are able to offer paid placements. Please ensure you meet the following criteria before submitting an expression of interest:
• Living and based in the West Midlands
• Aged 19 years or over
• Not currently in full or part time education
Silent Witness shoots in Digbeth. It is the responsibility of successful applicants to ensure they are able to get to the location as part of the training scheme. Unfortunately food, travel and accommodation expenses are not provided.
The Role
The Grip is responsible for rigging equipment that supports the camera department. The Grip Trainee works alongside experienced team members to help them deliver the needs of their department whilst learning the skills required to further their career.
The Grip Trainee’s main responsibilities include maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring good communication between departments and building and maintaining good working relationships with suppliers, both internally and externally. This is in addition to general administration tasks and day to day support for the Grip to rig and maintain equipment
Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this trainee role, you must have the following:
1. Passionate about BBC Studios Drama Productions.
2. Experience of working in a manual, physically demanding role, such as set rigging or construction
3. Evidence of working under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.
4. Evidence of good attention to detail with strong organisational and planning skills.
5. Experience of working in a position that requires strong interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of contacts both internally and externally.
6. Evidence of using initiative with confidence to solve problems, and using judgement to escalate where necessary.
7. Experience of prioritising and managing multiple tasks simultaneously

If confirmed, opportunities will last 3 to 6 weeks and run from April to August 2025.
